A Sunset Quilt : :

Sunset Quilt -- Road

Last week I received my Sunset Quilt top back and SO beautifully quilted by Sew Shabby Quilting! I finished the binding, using Tule's Native Fringe in Celeste late Sunday night, and on Monday we drove out to Lyman Lake to take our photos!

Sunset Quilt -- Sparkle

It's backed in my most favorite Tule print, Flora's Oasis in Rosa, with a little help from one of my most favorite LillyBelle prints by Bari J., Henna Stripe in Grey!

Sunset Quilt Back

This quilt is for my adorable niece & Goddaughter Sylvia. She lives in Hawaii, so I wanted to make her something sunny, pretty, and happy. Leah Duncan's Tule collection for Art Gallery Fabrics worked perfectly for my pattern!

Sunset Quilt

It was such a beautiful day for picture taking!

Since my pattern is so subtle, we decided to try something fun with the quilting, and I am in love with what Melissa did! We make a great team, her & I!

She made each little rectangle, solid, print, & corner of my quilt beautiful -- thank you Melissa for sharing your talent with me!

A Tule Patchwork Bag : :

Tule Sunset Patchwork Bag

In time to bring along on our Saturday day-trip, I stitched up this quick & easy tote bag making use of the Tule patchwork strips I had leftover from my Sunset quilt top. The outside and straps are made up of my scrappy strips and pieced together using the same Herringbone Quilt method that I just shared this past Monday. This time I sewed my rectangle panels together off-set just enough so this scrappy pattern looks more like a braid rather than the "V" herringbone design. I like it!

Tule Sunset Patchwork Bag

I used all but just a few of my scraps, so even though my bag construction is about as simple as it gets, I'm happy! I do enjoy making bags, but for me -- simple is very good!

It's lined with a pretty AGF Pure Element in Sweet Mint, with a nice layer of cotton batting to give it weight, boxed out sides, and finished with simple, densely quilted, throw-over-the-shoulder length straps.

Exposed Knots

Squared Off

Quilted Straps

I tossed in just a few supplies to work on quilting it during the drive and if there was a moment for handwork throughout the day. I love my thrifted stork scissors!

Quilting Supplies

There ended up being several opportunities for this project on Saturday. It was so wonderful to just sit and add my hand-quilting stitches while watching Kevin & the kids fish!

I'm especially glad I brought it along to get these pretty pictures!

I'll be adding many, many more stitches as I find the time. I'll be sure to share what it looks like finished with all that lovely hand-quilting!

Happy Sewing!!    Maureen

Super Stashy : :

After not sewing a single stitch yesterday, once the kids were off to school this morning I dove right into a new project -- making use of all those pretty Tule Sunset scraps!

Scraps Project

But want I really want to share today is my ironing board full of goodness! Just check out this wonderful, HUGE stack of fabric!!

Super Stashy!

I took major advantage of the 40% OFF sale happening at Sprightly Fabrics, stashing 64 different Art Gallery Fabric prints! Yes, Bijoux, Carnaby Street, Floressence, Lux in Bloom, Splendor 1920, & Reminisce is all here!

AGF's from Sprightly Fabrics!

At the top of my stack sits more Art Gallery Fabrics -- Angela Walters' new Legacy collection, more Tule, and the pretty coral & cool black prints from AGF's new Minimalista!

A bundle of Cloud9's soon to be released Up, Up, and Away by Skinny laMinx. I've designed a free quilt pattern for these that will be available just as soon as this collection is!

Up, Up, & Away -- LOVE!

And, I couldn't resist these Domino Dots by Violet Craft. I love the colors!

Domino Dots. Love these colors!

Lovely piles, aren't they?! Now my only problem is that I cannot decide which to cut into first!

How about you, have you stashed anything new lately  Maureen

Next Up : :

Well, sewing together that Sunset quilt back and the two others I need to piece together yet, Tsuru & Rock 'n Romance, never happened yesterday. Instead I listened to music, cleaned the kitchen, cooked an Italian feast to take to my parents house for dinner, and then cleaned my kitchen again. I didn't sew a single stitch!
I suppose all the late night sewing hours I've been putting in finally caught up with me and I needed the break. So for today's plan, besides etsy orders, I'll be making quilt backs and maybe some binding, too.

Rock 'n Romance Quilt Back

After I finish those, sticking with my pattern of alternating quilt tops with quilt-as-you-go quilts, I'm going to begin a new qayg with a herringbone pattern in mind. This idea came to mind while making my R 'n R quilt and I think it's going to be another quick one!

How about you? What's happening in your sewing room this week?

Tule Sunset : :

A Tule Quilt Top

At first peek I loved Tule, the new fabric collection by designer Leah Duncan for Art Gallery Fabrics. It's peachy pink, terracotta orange, minty green, sunny yellow, & aqua to cobalt blue scheme is color palette perfection in my opinion. So, when a Nevada Sun FQ bundle paired with coordinating Pure Elements Solids, recently arrived at my door I had a quilt idea ready in anticipation.

The pretty Tule colors brought images of the horizon at dusk and sunsets at the shore to my mind, and became my quilt design inspiration. I quickly drafted a pattern including repeating cuts & piecing, creating a quilt top that came together incredibly quick! I was thrilled with the result and shared a few pics on my Instagram along the way.

Working on a Tule quilt idea! I love this collection!!

I love it when a plan comes together! #leahduncan #tulefabric #sunrise #quilt

I snapped some fancier photos Friday evening just before nightfall on the top of Dutch Hill Road. Seeing the sunlight streaming down through the quilt top resembled stained glass, irradiating all the pretty Tule rectangles. It was beautiful!

So beautiful I have it hanging in my sewing room window while I piece together my quilt back this morning, and then it's off to Melissa at Sew Shabby Quilting to work her magic!!
