Next Up : :

Well, sewing together that Sunset quilt back and the two others I need to piece together yet, Tsuru & Rock 'n Romance, never happened yesterday. Instead I listened to music, cleaned the kitchen, cooked an Italian feast to take to my parents house for dinner, and then cleaned my kitchen again. I didn't sew a single stitch!
I suppose all the late night sewing hours I've been putting in finally caught up with me and I needed the break. So for today's plan, besides etsy orders, I'll be making quilt backs and maybe some binding, too.

Tsuru Sampler Quilt Back

Tule Sunset Quilt Back

Rock 'n Romance Quilt Back

After I finish those, sticking with my pattern of alternating quilt tops with quilt-as-you-go quilts, I'm going to begin a new qayg with a herringbone pattern in mind. This idea came to mind while making my R 'n R quilt and I think it's going to be another quick one!

How about you? What's happening in your sewing room this week?

  1. Wow! You have been busy and I haven't been over here in awhile and notice your creativity has been going gang busters! Such beautiful quilts! I need to put the finishing touches on a quilt for a grandson and I'm crocheting some little pumpkins but mostly I'm outside powerwashing the walks and painting since summer is too hot here to do that so I must grab this wonderful fall weather when I can. I too take breaks like you did....it's all about balance I've discovered. The dinner sounded yummy! Take care!

  3. Love all your projects ~ you are so inspiring.
I've been working on a couple of things this week. Doing an online class with Stitched in Color ~ I'm way behind but enjoying it! And, putting together a Pickle Dish quilt. Still paper piecing the arcs, but it sure is turning out lovely!

  4. Yes, sometimes you need to take a breather and catch up on other stuff! I spent a lot of Sunday cleaning like a maniac. Back to sewing tonight, though. I'm writing another tutorial (like this, but for the kitchen towels briefly mentioned in the post, http://kaesey.wordpress.com/2013/09/16/sewing-bender-and-a-mug-rug-tutorial/) and trying to make some fabric decisions for a stroller quilt for a friend's baby. I love looking at your quilts - they're inspiration for when I go back to my fabric stash!

    1. Thank you Kaesey!! I love putting colors and fabrics together! That's the one creative thing I miss out on when I make a quilt using an entire collection. When I first began quilting I didn't think I would ever make quilts unless I pulled my own custom fabric bundle for the job, but now I've totally changed my opinion on that. I'm really loving these ideas that come from admiring and learning about another designers work, and then doing my best to turn their work into something beautiful myself. It's challenging & fun!!

  5. My sewing room, this week, is full of the Bubble Guppies handpainted shirts and Grinch dresses! My little Etsy/Facebook business is really growing and the holidays are such a fun time to sew. And you are welcome to come and clean MY kitchen.. I'm lucky to clean it just once a day lately! Your quilts are beautiful, by the way... I save all of my scraps because someday I will have time to scrap quilt the days away!!

    1. Congrats on the etsy success! That's wonderful!!

I need to make a scraps quilt myself. I'm sure you can imagine how high the scrap drawers have been piling up around here with all the making. Maybe I should consider a destash? I definitely have some pretty scraps and lots of them!! :)

  6. Yup, sometimes we just need a day off! Right now I'm battling an oilcloth Aeroplane Bag. It's looking fab, but it is a total PITA to sew o.O

  7. This week - I posted my 3 blocks for the Tula Pink Sew a Long - had all summer to make the border for our Quilt Guilds Mystery Quilt - but no I had to wait until last night to start it as it will be shown tonight at our first meeting since June. Of course I had to chose a piano border and it is taking me forever to do. Hope to get it put on the quilt after work before the meeting tonight. Just call me the Procrastinator Queen!

  8. I, too, took a break from sewing. I went to visit my daughter that lives two hours south of me. She has fixed up the most beautiful apartment for me in her loft. She even has an area for me to sew and quilt. I will be spending some of my winter there as the snow flies here and it doesn't where she lives. I am excited for the cold weather for the first time in many years. I love her so much for doing that for me. Well, now I am home so back to the sewing and quilting I have been working on. Your quilts are so beautiful!! Happy sewing to you!!

    1. That's wonderful, Susan! My sister just moved back here and it has been so great -- we have dinner almost every night altogether at my parents house, along with my brother. It feels like it's a holiday everyday! Now I just need to get her sewing!! :)

      Happy sewing to you, too!!
