An Autumn Sun Quilt : :

An Autumn Sun Quilt -- Kinzua Bridge

It's no secret that I love this area of ours. Having spent most of my life here, I may be a little biased, but I do think it's a really wonderful place to live, to raise families, and for taking pictures of finished quilts, ahem! So, naturally, when we headed to Kane, Pennsylvania for a soccer game yesterday I jumped at the chance to bring my newest quilt finish to nearby Kinzua Bridge for picture taking! If you're not a local, the Kinzua Bridge is located in McKean County, was once known as the longest and tallest railroad structure in the world, was partially destroyed by a tornado in 2003, and in 2011 was reinvented as a new pedestrian walkway where visitors can stroll 600 feet out on the remaining support towers, peer miles out into the Kinzua Gorge, as well as look down into the partial glass platform at the end of the walkway! If you are a local, you know the story, that there's always something new for you to discover there, and that it happens to be one of the best spots around to enjoy the beautiful mountain foliage this time of year!

Autumn from Kinzua Bridge

An Autumn Sun Quilt

This quilt was inspired by the colorful September landscape of goldenrod and sunflower fields. The medley of yellow, orange, and brown in my scrappy hourglass pattern reminded me of a sunbeam immediately upon layout, and so I quickly dubbed this one my Autumn Sun Quilt!

An Autumn Sun Quilt

It came together fast using the super quick hourglass block making method I use to create my favorite pillows that I share in issue 8 of Love Patchwork & Quilting magazine, and is made up of mostly Bonnie Christine collections and what Art Gallery Fabrics blenders I could find in my stash keeping this cheery, sunny palette!

An Autumn Sun Quilt

I couldn't get a backing shot that does this print a justice, so I decided to share my favorite dreamy photo of it sailing in the wind!

An Autumn Sun Quilt, backing in Fly By Night

It's a gorgeous amount of my most favorite Sweet As Honey print, Fly By Night!

Fly By Night backing

I chose to have this one long arm quilted by Sew Shabby Quilting Melissa with some large, fun loops! She always does such an amazing job!!

Autumn Sun loops!

For the binding I chose to finish with another Sweet As Honey print, Bed of Daisies in Nutmeg!

I'm hoping for continued Fall exploring with the family & with a few more quilt finishes before this favorite, fleeting season of mine comes to an end!

Happy quilting!  Maureen

Binding & Destash Day!

Two beautifully long arm quilted quilts arrived back from Sew Shabby Quilting Melissa this week, my Emmy Grace and my Autumn Sun quilts! Today's plan is to make my binding and finish them up for hopeful picture taking this weekend!

Quilted with flowers & loops

At noon (EST) I plan to do a second Anna Maria Horner destash!

AMH Bundle Destash

I stayed up extra last night bundling some more of my precious out of print Anna Maria Horner fabrics to offer in a second little destash today. The last time I had a scrap bundle destash right here on my blog and although it worked out well, I'm going to give my Instagram a turn this time. Be sure to follow me over there if you're interested!

AMH Scrap Bundle Destash

Each scrap bundle will include approximately 1 yard of colorful AMH fabric scraps by weight and will vary in prints from several out of print collections. They are $15 a piece plus shipping, and I have just 20 bundles to offer today. All bundles will be shipped first class with tracking at $4 for USA residents. International friends are welcome to these scraps as well, but I will have to send the bundle in a flat rate envelope so the package is track-able, which is pretty pricey.

AMH Bundle Destash

These will ship today for those of you who would like one and can pay right away. I'm offering just one per person this time and am not able to take any requests as they are already packaged into my mailing envelopes. Please join me on Instagram at noon EST, leave a comment with your Paypal email address to claim, and the first twenty to do so will receive an AMH bundle!

Is sold out!

Thank you!  ♥ Maureen

A Rapture Making Rows Quilt : :

Rapture Making Rows Quilt

Happy Monday everyone, I'm excited to have a new quilt to share with you all today!

Rapture Making Rows Quilt

Yesterday, just before Easter dinner, Kevin and I slipped away to a pretty spot in town to take photos of my newly finished Rapture Quilt. It was such a beautiful, sunny day which certainly made for pretty, yet extra bright photos!

Floating!

This quilt is made in my "making rows" style of piecing, similar to the approach I used for this favorite quilt I designed for my son Kaiden. Rather than creating an assortment of quilt blocks, I simply make rows in the length of my desired quilt, keeping symmetry and balance. My favorite parts of this one are the strips of solids I added to break up this soft-hued Rapture collection. The ultra sweet color palette is so Springy, such a perfect finish for this time of year!

Making Rows #2

Inspired by Rapture's Windswept print, I sent this one off to Melissa, Sew Shabby Quilting, to long arm quilt with her loops & swirls pattern. I'm so happy with my choice and am always so impressed with Melissa's work!

Loops & Swirls quilting!

This quilt is bound in Art Gallery Fabric's Squared Element in Noir, to highlight the black bits of this quilt that I love so much!

Bound in Squared Elements Noir

For the back I went with my most favorite Rapture print, Wild Beauty in Pineapple, saving one row of patchwork to add in, as well!

Rapture Quilt Back

Rapture Quilt Back

While snapping photos of my quilt against the ashy woods and rock, if I focused in just enough, I could see little peeks of green sprouts on a few of the branches and beneath the layer of last Fall's leaves. It was encouraging to see!

Rapture Making Rows Quilt

Today we'll be celebrating my son Jacob, who's turning ten! I wish you all a wonderful day & happy sewing!!
