Scrap Bundle Destash!

Once upon a time this was the bulk of my fabric stash. Fat quarters to half yards cuts organized in rainbow order, minus a special shelf for all of my Anna Maria Horner fabrics and of course, a shelf dedicated to my collection of Art Gallery Fabrics!

I took this photo in the Summer of 2012, just after I had finished my first big quilt and a couple years before my dream of becoming a fabric designer came true. There has been so many quilts and SO much wonderful, beautiful fabric since I snapped this picture!

My goal is to start 2019 with a clean studio and slate, in the sense that I wish to have empty scrap baskets and drawers. Yes, I have both! I recently decided to completly redo my studio, a two room space that I rent downtown, after the holidays are over and destashing and decluttering will be key!

So last week, overcome with the desire to start purging, I emptied all of my various scrap vessels into one large basket to bring home, and throughout the past several days I've been putting together colorful 1 yard bundles to sell!

Scrap Bundle Destash

In each scrap bundle you’ll find a range of patterns and the occasional out of print fabric, in sizable strips and pieces of my studio scraps from the variety of collections that I've used to create my quilts and sewing projects over the past year or so, making these little bundles perfect for patchwork! Bundles are $10 a piece plus shipping. Please feel free to email me at maureencracknell@hotmail.com if you're interested in ordering anytime!

Scrappy Strings & a Detash!

Love Story Pillows

With each new collection I receive a set of strike offs -- large swatch fabric samples of my designs that are printed in a very short run just so we can take a look and make final approvals before sending the finalized designs to the mill for mass printing. It's always so exciting to photograph these little special pieces of fabric to announce each new collection!

Love Story pompoms

Once we get everything just right, I use the strike offs to make as many sample projects as I can for International Quilt Market and the collection LookBook. At next month's Fall Quilt Market in Houston I'll be showing a brand new collection due out this late winter\early spring, and I'm expecting those strike offs to arrive any day! This is why I've spent so much time sewing with Love Story these past two week. Once the next set arrives, I'll be so busy preparing for Quilt Market and Love Story will be shipping right after I return back home. I just wanted to give a little explanation behind my current sewing projects, incase it seems like I'm jumping away ahead. Hopefully sharing my Love Story projects has you excited for it's release! I have just two more projects planned for this weekend and then I'll be taking a little break with this collection to stitch with Soulful and for secret sewing with the next collection (which I cannot wait to show you, eeek!!)

The best way I know how to make the most of a set of strike offs, that will ensure they stretch into as many completed projects as possible, is to start by cutting colorful scrappy strips in random sizes from each print. Using my Quick Quilt As You Go technique and the herringbone style I love so much they seem to really go the distance. My current Love Story project count is at eight finished samples and I have more than half of what I received left to use. hooray!

Love Story Strings

Today I thought I'd share a couple more Love Story finishes. Including a third zipper pouch using herringbone qayg, of course!

I recently finished this scrappy string pillow and decided to attach my qayg blocks to form an X pattern, thinking it will be really cute and very fitting to come up with an O patchwork pattern to make a cute pair!

Love Story X strings

Beside Love Story sewing, this week I cleaned and reorganized my studio to make room for the new fabrics that will be arriving any day. Which means it's time for a Scrap Bundle Destash! I typically offer these on my Instagram but I wanted to announce here first incase anyone is interested in a studio scrap bundle? Just let me know!

Binding & Destash Day!

Two beautifully long arm quilted quilts arrived back from Sew Shabby Quilting Melissa this week, my Emmy Grace and my Autumn Sun quilts! Today's plan is to make my binding and finish them up for hopeful picture taking this weekend!

Quilted with flowers & loops

At noon (EST) I plan to do a second Anna Maria Horner destash!

AMH Bundle Destash

I stayed up extra last night bundling some more of my precious out of print Anna Maria Horner fabrics to offer in a second little destash today. The last time I had a scrap bundle destash right here on my blog and although it worked out well, I'm going to give my Instagram a turn this time. Be sure to follow me over there if you're interested!

AMH Scrap Bundle Destash

Each scrap bundle will include approximately 1 yard of colorful AMH fabric scraps by weight and will vary in prints from several out of print collections. They are $15 a piece plus shipping, and I have just 20 bundles to offer today. All bundles will be shipped first class with tracking at $4 for USA residents. International friends are welcome to these scraps as well, but I will have to send the bundle in a flat rate envelope so the package is track-able, which is pretty pricey.

AMH Bundle Destash

These will ship today for those of you who would like one and can pay right away. I'm offering just one per person this time and am not able to take any requests as they are already packaged into my mailing envelopes. Please join me on Instagram at noon EST, leave a comment with your Paypal email address to claim, and the first twenty to do so will receive an AMH bundle!

Last time when I had my rainbow bundle detsash on my instagram, although things went very quickly which was wonderful, I felt so bad for those of you who didn't have Instagram. So today, I thought I would try it out right here on my blog!

Fabric Scrap Overflow : :

Scrappy Improv Quilt

Almost two years ago actually to the day I finished my first scraps quilt. It was only the third quilt I had ever made, the first that was larger than a crib size. It took me forever and I learned so much about quilting as it evolved from the tiny bits I had saved from all the projects I had made while learning to sew that first year, to a finished, useful quilt. I thought back then that I'd continue on making smaller projects, pillows, bags, home decor items, sell-able things, and that I would save my quilt making for all the scraps those projects produced. If you've been following, you know I changed my mind on that!

Now, since that was the only true scraps quilt I've ever made and that was nearly two years ago, you can imagine the fabric scrap situation in my studio today. It's astounding! My drawers are so packed full they don't open without a forceful pull!

Fabric Scrap Drawer

The solution, since my last Instagram detsash was such a success although a bit overwhelming, I decided to begin slowly sorting and packaging up my scraps for a scraps bag destash!

Making Scrap Bags!

For Fabric Scrap Destashing!

Each scrap bag will include a cute yet heavy-duty, 100% cotton drawstring bag filled with lots of colorful fabric scraps! Some will consist of all the pretty fabric that I've used together to create one of my quilts, like these photos show from my almost finished Endless Summer Quilt.

Bundling by weight

However, in most you’ll find a range of patterns & solids, the occasional out of print fabric, in both sizable strips and pieces of my studio scraps from the variety of collections that I've used to create my quilts and sewing projects. I plan to fill each 10 x 12 inch bag with approximately 1 to 1 1/4 yards of fabric pieces by weight. Of course each scrap bag will vary in colors, designers, manufacturers, etc.. I plan to offer these for $10 a piece plus shipping, just as soon as I fill the 50+ bags I have on hand.

Making Fabric Scrap Bag!

If all goes well, I do hope to continue to bundle up my scraps like so to offer at the end of each project and to avoid this scrap overflow situation from ever reoccurring, I hope you're interested!

How about you, do you keep all of your project scraps? And if so, how do you keep them from taking over?! I'd love to read your tips for organizing and for how you handle your scraps, share away!!

Rainbow Bundles : :

Yesterday, while I read your very helpful suggestions and began to sort my fabrics by color, I looked across the table at all the colorful piles and I decided to begin my destashing with rainbow bundles!

Making #rainbow bundles for my fabric destash! Hoping to list these tomorrow!! #thegreatfabricdestash

Each bundle will be $8, weighs at least 5 oz, and contains eleven to fifteen different designer quilting cotton fabrics in cuts measuring on average 9" x 11" or more. I plan to share this detash on my Instagram at 11 am EST today. I will share my rainbow bundle photo above, with the amount of bundles I have available today, and ask that those interested simply leave their paypal email address for me to invoice. All bundles will be shipped first class with tracking at $3 for USA residents and first class international without tracking at $6 per package for those in Canada.

I'll continue to destash MANY more rainbow bundles, color bundles, volume bundles, designer/collection bundles (mostly AMH), and scrap bags, as I get them ready throughout the next couple of weeks!

As always, thank you so much for your amazing support!    Maureen
