Studio Snapshots : :

Yesterday I didn't find as much sewing room time as I had hoped to after being gone for several days.  Honestly, the only things I kept thinking about really wanting to make back here at home, were more of those wonderful Scrappy Improv Chevron Blocks and more birds!

I did find all of about 45 minutes, with a little helper by my side, to be in my room. I walked in, immediately putting on Pandora, noticing the mess I had left everywhere, sat on the floor with my camera and I started taking photos. Want to see?

It's safe to assume that this is where Lily spent most of the time while we were away. I had left my large order of  AMH's Loulouthi Coreopsis sitting on my sewing desk, waiting there to remind me they needed to become curtains when I got home. I think she's going to be upset with me when I do start sewing with them!

Coreopsis Cat

I had left a small pile of Art Gallery Birds to remind me, just in case I were to forget, that I wanted to put a bird on everything last week. This week, I still do!

making plans

I'm excited to add them to these lovely new Robert Kaufman Linens and Timeless Treasures Texture prints from JAQS Studio, in the form of pillows, tea towels, and possible a new bag!

texture

I whipped up this block on a whim a week or so ago, after getting an idea while thinking of this pillow, and I'm still not sure what it should be? Ideas appreciated! I was planning to add it to a back of a bag that I want to make in the very near future, perhaps I should just stick with that?

block

I snapped a quick photo of my huge stack of Urban Cowgirl that I had won a few weeks back from the Fat Quarter Shop! I still can't believe it and still don't have a plan for them just yet. I think I'll continue to admire them all bundled up so nicely the way Moda always does!

my giveaway winnings

After spending a very special stretch of days with my family, it was extra sweet to finally turn my calendar to April and to find this image. My husband and I will be celebrating our TEN year wedding anniversary later this month, so it felt pretty perfect! Isn't it sweet?

april

When my 45 minutes of sewing room time was up, I felt as though I had accomplished a lot in a short amount of time, even though I didn't actually have anything to show for it. It was a great reminder of all the things happening and waiting to happen, but mostly that some days the best thing to do is just to sit and notice and just be.

Today, however, I feel like sewing! How about you? Have you made anything new lately? I'd love to see!

Bee Blocks & New Fabric : :

I finished up my two March bee blocks yesterday!! These are for the do. Good Stitches Love Circle. March hostess Natalie chose improv chevrons in turquoise, robin’s egg blues, orange-yellows, and greys -- a fabulous color combination if you ask me!! We were assigned to use the Improv Chevron tutorial created by Six White Horses and I just love the end result!  This great block design paired with a Natalie's beautiful color palette is perfection!

Improv Chevron Bee Block -- stash pulls and more scraps!

I did struggle with my first block in the beginning. I pieced together my center just fine and then I got a bit lost and just couldn't get that full angle in the side pieces? I stepped away for a few hours, realized that I was just majorly over thinking the whole process, and when I returned it was a piece of cake. The second one came together so fast and beautifully!

Improv Chevron

I really like the brighter tones in this block. I added in my favorite Bryant Park print, the top fabric on the left and I think it's so pretty!

This afternoon I'm leaving for four days, with no sewing! Can you believe it? Otherwise, I think I would keep going with these blocks, a quilt of these would be amazing!! I think I may have found my next scraps quilt plan?

Improv Chevron Bee Blocks & stash pulls

Besides, the last thing I need is another project to start right now. I hope to return with some new energy to finish up all my unfinished projects. There are several that are so close!

wips

I have a desk full of new fabrics & materials, projects, and future giveaways waiting for my return, as well.

On my Desk

Just check out these wonderful stacks of fabric! I had myself a bit of a shopping spree recently with some of my extra birthday crown $$! :) I took advantage of the special sales happening at Form & Fabric, Modern Fabric Studio, and the Grand Opening sale Julie had for her new eCommerce site for her shop, The Intrepid Thread!

Huge Fabric Stashing -- Modern Fabric Studio, The Intrepid Thread, + Form & Fabric

These Yuwa Prints are some of my favorites right now, aren't they sweet?

Yuwa, Rifle, and Stamps

Most of all, I am loving all things Art Gallery right now! Which makes me extra excited about tomorrow's Giveaway!! Here's a peek!

Our Loulouthi Scarves : :

This weekend my girl and I did a little sewing together and made ourselves each a new scarf with Anna Maria Horner's lovely Loulouthi.

Our new scarves!

I stashed some Loulouthi voile and flannel recently from Modern Fabric Studio (for a great price!) and used the same directions I gave for my Simple Children's Scarf tutorial, just altering the measurements to allow for wider and lengthier scarves. I'm planning on adding the how-to for these to my tutorial page, as well.

loulouthi voiles and flannels from modern fabric studio

It was a great afternoon project for the two of us to do together!

sewing together

Anna Maria's flannels are so soft and wonderful! We both prefer the feel of these fabrics around our necks, over a knitted scarf. She chose this aqua Flower Circles print in Maiden.

loulouthi flannel

I chose an aqua thread to add my top stitching.

These are my very favorite prints! The voile is Clippings in Forrest and the flannel, Flower Circles in Twilight.

My new rotary cutter came just in time!

Our scarves were quick and easy to make. The combination of the voile and flannel make them so super soft and snuggly!

Aren't they pretty?

We think so!

And now, a giveaway winner!
