Today I'm sharing two more size variations for the
Simple Children's Scarf Tutorial I shared back in September. This is a wonderful little tutorial for a beginner sewist. A project that's super quick, easy, and is all about comfort! I'm using the photos of our new
Loulouthi Scarves from last week, where I again used a combination of voile and flannel, to create this tutorial today. In the end you'll have a lovely, comfortable, two-sided scarf that anyone young or old is sure to love...

What you'll need : :
Cutting and Piecing the Fabrics : :
1. Choose two fabrics for each scarf and coordinating thread, iron both your flannel and voile before beginning.
2. For the child size scarf use 1 - 1/4 yd piece of voile measuring 9" x 54". Cut 2 - 9" strips from flannel. For the adult size scarf use 2 - 1/4 yd pieces of voile measuring 9" x 54". Cut 3 - 9" strips from flannel.
3. Fold voiles and flannels in half, matching selvedge edge to edge, trim away
4. For the child size, sew two 9" strips of flannel pieces to each other to create one long strip, press seams open, fold in half with the seam as the fold, trim about 17" from the raw ends so the flannel meausures the same in length as the voile. For the adult size do the same with the two voile pieces and three flannels, these fabrics should measure up to be about the same in both width and length, if not trim away any extra length so each fabric measures the same.
The following instructions will be the same for both scarf sizes --
5. Lay scarf fabrics on the work surface with right sides together. Get the pins ready
. With the wrong side facing up, begin pinning the fabrics together. Insert a pin about every 2" or so around the perimeter of the scarf
6. Using a 1/4" seam allowance, sew along the edge, leaving one end open for turning out the scarf
7. Clip corners away, turn out the scarf, and press well.
8. fold in the open edge a 1/4", press, pin closed (you can find more details of this step
here)
9. To finish, staying close to the very edge of the scarf, sew opening opening closed, removing pins as you go, and continue to top stitch around the entire scarf
Ta-da! You're Simple Scarf is finished!
