The Janome Skyline S5 : :

I’ve been using the new Janome Skyline S5 for the last few weeks and I'm here today to share with you all that absolutely love it! Right out of the box I noticed that it has many of the same features I've grown to love and use daily on my regular more expensive home machine, the Horizon MC15000. Both include an extensive catalog of built-in stitches, a feature I often take advantage of. I love getting creative with decorative stitches and with the Skyline S5 you can, too!







A few more of my favorite Skyline features include the start/stop button, an automatic thread cutter, easy set bobbin, speed control slider, wonderful lighting, and the Janome precision you get with each stitch!



While I really love my current Janome, I found that this machine is equally sturdy & powerful and really does offer everything I use most in my day to day sewing. Plus it's nice and compact and pretty!



Over the weeks I enjoyed using the Skyline to make dozens of my birthday crowns and for piecing HST's for my current quilt wip. I made my niece a Christmas stocking and best of all taught my friend how to make her very first quilt!





Using the Skyline to make a quilt was the biggest test for me! Since I've been pretty spoiled these past couple of years using both a Horizon MC12000 and now the MC15000, I was excited to see if my friend would appreciate the Skyline when compared to her current at home machine. It ended up being such a treat for her! The Skyline's spacious bed and throat space made her first try at quilting easy. Having the extra room made such a difference for my friend who's use to a much smaller space. The Skyline's extra lighting made for a much brighter work area, too, and we both love that!









In the end she made a beautiful, first quilt! And hooray, I think she's hooked and I owe much of that to the experience and quality that comes from sewing with the Janome Skyline S5!

I want to thank Janome for giving me the opportunity to try out this new machine, I hate to have to send it back! And I also want to thank them for producing such high-quality machines! Oh how I wish I would have had a Skyline when I was first starting out!

A Herringbone QAYG in Winged : :

This week my friend and I continued our Herringbone QAYG sew-together and the end result is a finished quilt even more beautiful than I imaged it would be! She chose this bundle of Winged from the Fat Quarter Shop, a collection by Bonnie Christine for Art Gallery Fabrics of sweet nature inspired prints!



For this quilt we used mostly the new Janome Skyline S5 sewing machine, a compact, mid-lined priced machine with lots of high end features. I've been using it for the past few weeks and plan to share my review early this next week. I can honestly tell you I love it, it's going to be so hard for me to send it back to Janome!



This Herringbone QAYG took us about two days of sewing time while our kids were at school. On the first day we cut the fabrics and batting panels to size, stacking the fabric strips in pattern order so we wouldn't have to do any rearranging as we sewed. We took turns using both the Skyline and my Janome Horizon MC15000 to make our QAYG panels. By the end of that first day we had just one panel left to do!



This week's sewing day started with pressing the quilt top & seams open and making the prettiest Peach Sherbet binding!



Next I shared a spray basting how-to, we added the last quilt stitches attaching the quilt top to a cozy flannel quilt back, and then taught my method for quick machine binding!







This is one gorgeous quilt, we both love it so much!! And now Cynthia's making a second one in her leftover Winged strips combined with Bari's Emmy Grace all on her own in time for holiday gift giving, yay!!

Sewing Together : :

Last week my friend Cynthia and I spent one glorious day sewing together! We've been talking about doing this for so long, as in years, about three in fact, which is exactly how long it's been since I finished my very first quilt. I can honestly say I'm glad we waited. I didn't know what I was doing for about a year and most of our sewing plans came from hoping we'd do much better if we did it together. Today, I've grown into a confident quilter who can easily explain and share with my friend how to make a beautiful quilt fast, which made the making easy and the process so much fun!



As for the fabric, Cynthia chose Bonnie's beautiful Winged collection for Art Gallery Fabrics!





For the pattern, she's using my Herringbone QAYG tutorial!



For our day of sewing, we tried out the new Janome Skyline S5 accompanied by my Janome MC 15000 at the dining room table.



We took turns using both Janome models. What a blessing to have such amazing machines to sew on! Janome recently sent me this new Skyline S5 to use and review. So while teaching Cynthia, I was also learning and comparing the Skyline features to my current MC 15000 and the other machines I've sewn on. I plan to continue using it this week, but can already share that this machine really has every convenience I use & need for my daily sewing projects, from birthday crowns to quilt tops! I especially love how compact it is!



We spent the day sewing away, drinking coffee, and laughing constantly. What an amazing opportunity to see my friend learn this process I love so much, to watch her instantly fall in love with the prettiness of her work, which resulted in the beginnings of such a beautiful quilt!



Ah, to be wrapped up in the colors of Spring this Winter, how perfect! We plan to meet one more time after this busy Thanksgiving week to finish it up, stay tuned!
