Aurifil ♡ : :

It's no secret that I love to use Aurifil thread in my projects. Recently I received the most beautiful collection of their threads to use in some big projects I'll be working on behind the scenes, but I just couldn't resist showing you these colors right away! It's as if this Arizona Thread Box by April Rhodes was made just for me! These colors are so lovely and of course they coordinate perfectly with all of April's fabric collections, which you may have noticed, I've been using quite a bit in recent weeks. These threads are all 40wt cotton, which is a favorite of mine for quilting and binding!

Arizona Aurifil Collection

Aurifil Love!

Since I had a newly pieced quilt top in April's new Bound fabrics waiting in the balance to be backed & bound, I decided to dig right into these gorgeous threads to finish it up!

A Summer Harlequin Quilt Top in Bound

First I picked up the Mustard yellow to match the Survey in Ochre print I chose for my quilt back. I usually choose a thread that will blend right into my quilt backing fabric and this was a pretty perfect match!

For Quilt Backing

For the binding I first considered this Stainless Steel grey thread, it looks so nice with the Bound Homebody stripe print I chose!

Bound Binding

Once I began adding my final quilting to the top, I loved the pop of color the Mustard added to the patchwork, how it mixed right into my backing fabric, and I decided it would work just as well for attaching the binding. No need to wind additional bobbins, hooray! I'm so happy with how it all turned out!

An Aurifil Finish!

Using both April's fabrics and this thread collection of hers certainly makes for a beautiful quilt! Now it's off to my friends at Love, Patchwork, & Quilting Magazine to be shared in an upcoming issue, yay!!

A Quilt in April Rhodes

How about you, have you tried Aurifil threads?

  1. I adore April's fabric lines. You did an amazing job piecing it all together! I have never used Aurifil thread. What is the difference for you? The colors are so stunning but the price has scared me off. 🙈 Am I nuts?

    1. It just sews so smooth, it's so fine and slides through my machine like butter, but it's still very strong. The range of colors is amazing and really adds another layer of creativity to my quilts. I've also noticed since switching that seams lay flatter and that there is less 'loss' to the pressing. I highly recommend you try it!

  2. Looking forward to seeing this quilt. The fabric is beautiful and using April's thread collection looks like it added just the right touch. My machine and I both love using Aurifil. I always get nice even stitches with Aurifil.

    1. Awe, thank you Lisa! I'm actually sewing with it again today and I think adding it some softer solids -- peach, coral, icy blues, yellows really makes a big difference and really sweetens the palette. I do love the more masculine, neutral color scheme, but I love it all the more when combined with these pastels.

  10. I bought the same box of thread that you have when I bought a fat quarter bundle of Arizona. I made an bed runner and two pillow witht the fabric, but had the most fun when I quilted each of them with the various threads. My daughter has them all on her bed and loves them.
