A Rapture Making Rows Quilt : :

Rapture Making Rows Quilt

Happy Monday everyone, I'm excited to have a new quilt to share with you all today!

Rapture Making Rows Quilt

Yesterday, just before Easter dinner, Kevin and I slipped away to a pretty spot in town to take photos of my newly finished Rapture Quilt. It was such a beautiful, sunny day which certainly made for pretty, yet extra bright photos!

Floating!

This quilt is made in my "making rows" style of piecing, similar to the approach I used for this favorite quilt I designed for my son Kaiden. Rather than creating an assortment of quilt blocks, I simply make rows in the length of my desired quilt, keeping symmetry and balance. My favorite parts of this one are the strips of solids I added to break up this soft-hued Rapture collection. The ultra sweet color palette is so Springy, such a perfect finish for this time of year!

Making Rows #2

Inspired by Rapture's Windswept print, I sent this one off to Melissa, Sew Shabby Quilting, to long arm quilt with her loops & swirls pattern. I'm so happy with my choice and am always so impressed with Melissa's work!

Loops & Swirls quilting!

This quilt is bound in Art Gallery Fabric's Squared Element in Noir, to highlight the black bits of this quilt that I love so much!

For the back I went with my most favorite Rapture print, Wild Beauty in Pineapple, saving one row of patchwork to add in, as well!

Rapture Quilt Back

While snapping photos of my quilt against the ashy woods and rock, if I focused in just enough, I could see little peeks of green sprouts on a few of the branches and beneath the layer of last Fall's leaves. It was encouraging to see!

Today we'll be celebrating my son Jacob, who's turning ten! I wish you all a wonderful day & happy sewing!!

  4. I love this quilt! I would never have thought to add the bits of black solid fabric, but those few squares make the other fabrics shine. You know you're a genius, right??? I love all of your quilts!

    1. Thank you! For this quilt I improvised from start to finish and didn't take any notes along the way. I do hope to release a pattern for my "making rows" style of quilt making in the near future, that will have a very similar feel to both this one and my last making rows quilt! :)

  20. Love the balance the zigzag gives it! And I like the binding too - I've used it too. Nice quilting as well. I'm so glad to see someone else using overall quilting. I like the look of 'compartmentalized' quilting (is there a name for that?), but who has time for that?

    1. Thank you, Carol! I love the quilts I splurge to get long arm quilted! My machine is capable of so much, but I like to send them out when I can to get the different quilting patterns. It makes them look extra special and always enhanced my quilt pattern! :)

  24. A beautiful quilt. Thanks for the description of your process -- I went back to the quilt for your son Kaiden, and I like your row approach. Controlled spontaneity, I suppose. And a happy birthday to Jacob who has reached double digits. I love how you are "celebrating Jacob" tonight and not just his birthday.
