With Ribbons : :

A new AMH Herringbone!

Yesterday I started a second Herringbone Quilt, this time using just the two Anna Maria Horner collections that didn't arrive in time to be included in my first one, Dowry and True colors! New to this quilt are also these Design Roll precuts that are making this super quick quilt make even quicker!

AMH Happiness!

I'm so in love with this quilt already! It was just about midnight last night when I decided that Dowry, combined with True Colors, is my favorite AMH collection to date. A revisit to her Dowry introduction post this morning confirmed that. Yes, this collection is truly a gift to us quilters!

As enthused as I am just to be finally sewing with Anna's Dowry fabrics, I'm extra excited that for this quilt I'll be adding in a layer of her richly colored Dowry jacquard ribbons from Renaissance Ribbons!

AMH Dowry jacquard ribbons from Renaissance Ribbons!

I have a full jar of Aurifil waiting to be matched up for ribbon edge-stitching!

Aurifil jar -- better than candy!

I can't wait to add them to my quilt!

Dowry Ribbon love!

How about you, have you used ribbon for added detail and texture to any of your quilts or sewing projects?

  7. I too love these AMH collections - looking forward to seeing your quilt :)

The ribbons are lovely - I use ribbons quite often on things like Christmas stockings, but particularly love to weave with them too and use the fabric I make from the weaving in small projects.

  10. My mother-in-law used to make jackets out of sweatshirts... She hand sewed the ribbon all around the edge and the edges of the sleeves. She sold them

  11. For the love of God, use some of that ribbon for guitar straps. That is what immediately came to mind when I saw it. I think I'm going through project withdrawal .

  14. I bought the sweetest ribbon trims last summer when I was vacationing on the South Carolina coast. One in red/beige, the other in blue/beige. I just recently added the red trim to a skinny pincushion I made, Zakka style. It was just the touch. I don't often embellish, but when done well, it's beautiful! I love your collection, can't wait to see what you do with them!

    1. Hi Darcy! I'm assuming yes, but just sent Edith (the Renaissance rep) an email asking if there are any special washing instructions. I really don't think there will be. The ribbons are so often used in pillows & garments, and when I was contacted about using them I asked if they could be included in a quilt and the response was "Absolutely!" I can't wait to see this one come together!

You must be having a ball working with these 5(!) yell rolls!! The ribbons too are absolutely beautiful! Hope to be able to buy some soon to make a gorgeous pillow.

    1. Thank you! Actually my quilt requires I use only two rolls of Dowry and one of True Colors, so the others I'll be giving away here when I share my finished quilt! I'll also have one yard of each of the Dowry ribbons to give away, too! Stay tuned... :)

  26. So, so, beautiful fabric! I have never even thought about adding ribbons to quilts, but with new grandchildren coming this year, I am in the create mode.....as soon as I find out whether we have a boy or a girl! Ribbons would certainly be a fun and pretty way to add something special for the new baby quilt! Thanks so much for this post!

  28. I am wondering when you quilt as you go - do the seams get really thick and hard to sew together? I have never quilted as I went and am curious . . .
    Thanks - love your blog!!!

  29. I have used ribbon and it gets '"warpy" except the cross grain kind it doesnt. I think if it has the thin rubber backing. I love this fabric too.
