Last week I pulled this sunny stack of fabrics from my stash, all Art Gallery Fabrics mostly from Bonnie Christine's newest line Sweet As Honey, with a couple Chromatics, a Reminisce floral, Squared Element in Lemon, and a Tule Folklore print added to the mix! A very happy collection!
With quick cutting & piecing and some shiny yellow variegated Aurifil quilting, I made myself a very cheerful set pillows!
I finished both with binding, my most favorite way to finish pillows these days!
One in sunshine yellow and one in sunshine orange!
A perfect quilty start to another new week!
Happy sewing! ♥ Maureen
I LOVE these! =D
ReplyDeleteSuper duper pretty!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteMaureen, these pillows are lovely. The binding on the edges is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI have a few questions about pillows:
1. Do you use pillow forms?
2. Do you have recommendations for choosing filler for pillows?
3. How do you size your pillow cover to the inner form? For example, if you buy a 12 x 12 pillow form, do you make your sham the same size? You have such a nice, full fit on your pillows.
Thanks!!
Thank you Sarah! I do use pillow forms always. I recommend picking up the ones available at Jo-ann Fabrics. They are usually 40-50% off. For sizes, I like my pillows to feel very sturdy and full, especially since pillows will lose their fluff and will flatten over time from use. For these I made a 15" square finished pillow cover to fill with a 16" pillow insert. The fox pillows I sell in my shop are made to be 1/2" - 1" under 12" for me to use a 12" insert, etc.. It definitely makes for a nice, full pillow!
DeleteThank you, Maureen, for your super helpful answer!
DeleteIn the back of my pillows whenever I do an envelope closure I get some fabric sagging? Do you have any suggestions on why and what I can do to fix it? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem and fixed it by adding a fabric covered button on the bottom half, then a loop of fabric on the top- very pretty!
DeleteI think the trick is to be very generous with the backing fabric overlap, for example -- for these 15" pillow covers, I cut my two pieces for the back at around 11" x 15.5," hemming one piece and binding the raw edge of the outer fabric because I love that look. I hope this helps!
DeleteBeautiful pillows... Love all the tiny details!!!
ReplyDeleteSo bright and sunny ~ just what's needed this time of year! love the quilting!
ReplyDeleteOhhh, my favorite colors. You did a beautiful job Maureen.
ReplyDeleteSo cheery and bright! Perfect for SPRING! :)
ReplyDeleteThese pillows are really beautiful. I just love the orange.
ReplyDeleteSo cheery and beautiful! Thinking I need to pull some fabrics and make a few pillows for our couch - - - or go fabric shopping?!!?! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely thing to see today. They're so cheery!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful, and perfect colors for my wishing-for-spring state of mind! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is interesting that you made the covers up to 1" smaller than the pillow insert. I recently made pillow covers for my cousin's breakfast nook. I used a grey canvas, and I actually made the pillow covers 1/2" larger, thinking that they would shrink when washed. Since they were used over a bolster seat cushion, the pillows I made covers for were lined up on the wall to sit against.
ReplyDeleteI love how you paired the fabrics, Maureen! So sunny! I've been collecting the Sweet As Honey line this winter and wondering about how I will put it together .. thanks for your lovely blog!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous as usual!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog Maureen...Your pillows are amazingly gorgeous...just as everything you make is gorgeous...You are such an inspiration to me. Makes me want to make new pillows but then I just did a month ago..
ReplyDeleteThank you for this project. I am inspired by your blog and I sew want to make one.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! The sun is shining here today -- definitely a mood booster!

ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous! I really need to start adding binding to my pillows. It really makes them pop! Ugh Maureen I hate binding! lol Let me know if you have to many pillows in your house and need to find new homes for them ;)
ReplyDeleteI just wanna squeeze these pillows into a glass and drink it with breakfast! These are so pretty and a real treat for the winter doldrums!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cushions, just right for spring time. Would you consider doing a tutorial for the cushions as I would love to learn how to do the block and edging you used?
ReplyDeletei love these so much, maureen. seriously, STUNNING!
ReplyDeleteI do love bright and cheery, it gives hope that the sun might (eventually) come out again!
ReplyDeleteMaureen how do you attach & finish off the binding. Your pillows are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love this sunny bright quilted pillows for spring and summer. Is there a way to get a better finish on the back side binding? Would it be possible to hand stitch down the binding on the back?
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the colors and prints of these fabrics. The pillows look so summery and I can picture them outside on a porch swing! Making pillows was the perfect choice!
ReplyDeleteLovely! I don't know which one I like more, tho I do love the bug. I like your binding edges.
ReplyDeleteThese pillows are simply gorgeous. Love the fabrics!
ReplyDeleteLovely colours! I can feel the sunshine :)
