Back in early Fall I shared a post called Felty Things, including some of my most favorite felt projects, gushing about how much I love to sew with felt this time of year. My talented friend & fellow felt sewing fan Betz White was reading that day and invited me to create one of the amazing felt ornaments from her brand new, Holiday Stitch-along Ornament Club! I chose to make the Peace Dove Ornament in a pretty Sky Blue wool blend felt and I love how it turned out!
I consider myself a bit of a beginner when it comes to embroidery, but with the handy Stitch Glossary Betz provides with each pattern, the Blanket stitch, French knot, Backstitch, & Lazy Daisy stitch needed, were a cinch!
It came together quick and in the end I had a beautiful, well made, two-sided ornament that I would love to make a few more of! Haila has even asked to make one for herself to hang on her door, which I think is both a great idea and something she could totally do with a little help from me!
It's not to late for you to sign up for Betz's Holiday Stitch-along Ornament Club! This months ornament is scheduled to debut on Betz's blog today. You are welcome to join in any time and will receive patterns for the two already-released ornaments, this Peace Dove and this super, cute Hot Chocolate, along with November's design, and the final ornament on December 2nd!
If you're in need of high quality felt for ornament making or for any other felt sewing plan you might have, stop by my etsy anytime this month and use coupon code: FELT20OFF for 20% off any Wool Blend Felt purchase!
Happy Monday! ♥ Maureen
Very pretty and nice pictures too!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carla!
DeleteThat is so pretty! I love it that your daughter wanted one for her door. When I was growing up, kids didn't want things that were 'homemade.' I'm glad that has changed. Even my 18 year old son loves things I make for him!
ReplyDeleteYes, that's definitely not the case in this house, especially when it comes to Haila. My boys can be difficult to make for, but that's mostly my fault. Girl ideas are endless and just come so easily!
DeleteOne thing my boys have liked (even my 25 yr. old!) are pillowcases in fabrics they have picked out. My youngest is a hockey player so he has lots of hockey themed ones, my older loves vintage aircraft and I've made ones from WWII and modern era planes. When he went away to college in Virginia, he wanted a Texas themed one to represent where he was from. So he went quilt fabric shopping with me and I made one he loved. Fun!
Deletelovely dove .. and look at the felt stacks.... aaaah.. nice colors -
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, I love my felt colors and I really need to do more felt projects, this one was so much fun. My crowns just keep me too busy!
DeleteLove it! What a great project idea for you and Haila to do together.
ReplyDeleteLovely stitching on your bird ornament. It turned out beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThat really came out beautifully, love the blue shade and the stitching.
ReplyDeleteI do have a felt book and lots of wool felt, so I need to start making things.
Debbie
Love the blue.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gayle! It was tough to choose between this blue, a light aqua blue, or a pale yellow -- I think if we make more I'll use those others colors!
DeleteThis is gorgeous, Maureen! What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteLove that bird and your flowery hook!
ReplyDeleteHow cute is that! I like that it doesn't have to be just for the holidays.
ReplyDeleteI love sewing with felt but haven't made anything in a while. Thanks for the ideas.
ReplyDeleteI love to work with felt! I make felt Jesse Tree Ornaments for Advent/Christmas this time every year - angels, garland, a nativity set, too! http://etsy.me/1bTnkIs
