Baby Quilt Planning : :

Just a few days after I shared my last fabric stash post I received these adorable new bundles in the mail -- this Reminisce Inspired Pure Element Solids bundle from Stash Fabrics and this super cute & cozy FQ bundle of FanFare flannel by Rae Hoekstra for Cloud9 Fabrics.

Mmmm... I love these together! An AGF Pure Element bundle from Stash Fabrics and Made By Rae's new Fanfare collection for Cloud9 Fabrics!

Since I love the way these two bundles look together, I decided to begin a new baby quilt-as-you-go with these as my starting point.  I've always wanted to incorporate my fox applique pillow design into a quilt somehow and this is the perfect opportunity!

While thinking up additional applique blocks for this quilt, I remembered these elephant applique pillows I made back in 2011, and thought this design might make a cute block to add in, too!

After making my Stitched Typography Quilt and my recent Butterfly Quilt, I'm really excited for this chance to experiment with applique & quilt-as-you-go once again! Here's a little peek at the progress I made last night.

And now I've decided my fox needs a crown!

I'm thinking of adding in an owl applique block, because I love owls, and maybe a tree block or two, as well. What else do you think would be cute? I always love reading your ideas!

  11. LOVE it! I love how there is a pennant, fox and elephant in the flannel that you have chosen for the quilt. I think a polka dot applique block would be cute as well... but I love the simplicity of picking what is in the flannel and 'highlighting" it with your wonderful applique ....

  12. Squirrels are really cute! And I think they fit well with the other animals too!

  13. You have such a great style. Thanks for sharing. You are always an inspiration. By the way, it would be interesting to see just how you 'plan' a quilt. I know you showed a bit in a couple of posts ago, but do you use a sketchbook, all digital, no real planning? What design program do you use? It would be interesting as I am 'planning' a couple of quilts based on some fabric I purchased.

  14. as strange as this may sound- i'd add a beach ball- with different colored wedges- like your banners. I, too, am getting a big top, circus feeling. But maybe that wouldnt go so well with trees...

  21. I'm kind of a porcupine fan, myself (see? http://kaesey.wordpress.com/2013/06/05/porcupines-and-pickles/) but I think a squirrel would be really cute and go with the fox and an owl! Or maybe a chipmunk?

Love the fox, by the way. So cute and yet still....foxy. I think it's the ears. =)

    1. I was agreeing with Kara, Jeanne E., and Lisa Walsh, so I should have said "hedgehog" instead of porcupine! Hedgehogs are cuter, really. =)
