Some Happy Sewing : :

Yesterday was possibly the worst sewing day I have ever had to date. Nothing was going my way, and it only got worse as the day went on! I kept having to step away and when I would return, the silly mistakes and frustration would just continue. Blah! So, let's forget about that for now and focus on some happy sewing news, k?

I finished two more Simple Color Tote baskets for my rainbow of fabric scraps. These make me happy!!

Four down

I was so excited to receive so many comments when I first shared these, thank you! Fun and practical sewing is my absolute favorite, so these are nothing but a pleasure to make! If today's sewing road is just as bumpy, I plan to just stop and make more of these!

They are hanging and waiting to be filled, but I'm saving the fabric scrap sorting for the kids! Hopefully I convince at least one of them that it will be a fun game...he he

Finished Four

This new aqua tote is my very favorite! A little aqua over-load perhaps, with my chair and that door as a backdrop?!

New Favorite

And, this just happens to be the mug I'm drinking my coffee in today. Clearly I enjoy this color! This mug and the rest of the set, inspired my last Blogger Bundle for Pink Castle Fabrics, Sweet Summer Dreams. Today, Brenda listed my newest selection of fabrics - my "For the Boys Blogger Bundle". This new bundle is inspired by the room I hope to create for my boys in our new house, with colors that I also know my husband likes. With all the "girly sewing" I do and see, I thought it would be a nice change to put together a collection of fabrics the boys in my life would appreciate. I hope to use it to create something for them....for once!
(Oh, and all PCF pre-cut bundles are 20% with code : PRECUT20 this week only!)

Favorite Mug

In other news, I have a Three Little Birds pillow project in the newest issue of Simply Handmade Magazine's Sewing issue for Fall 2012. This is one of my all time favorite pillow designs!

Bird Pillow in Simply Handmade Sewing

I still remember the day I received my Summerlove bundle. It is such a gorgeous collection! I wanted to use it right away, but only a little because I loved it so much! This pillow is the design that emerged. I've made six of them now, and just listed this one in my shop!

Summerlove Spring Birdie Pillow

And finally, be sure to take a peek at this weekend's Fabric Giveaway offering from Cotton Blossom Farms! A gorgeous bundle that will certainly make for some happy sewing!!

  2. Hello Ms. Maureen,
Sorry to hear about your BSD(bad sewing day). Having been sewing since I was 13, I can certainly relate to many BSDs. Even now I'm having a new challenge, learning to sew on the new-to-us-longarm machine, my friend and I share. I was really looking forward to this new experience, since quilting on my little ole Janome was a battle. Too much quilt, not enough arm space!!! By the way, too much Aqua is always a good thing!!! Take care and take time to de-stress, you will need mega-stamina in the coming months!!! Hugs, Cyndy

  3. We ALL have Bad Sewing days! Sometimes it is better to just walk away from the machine and give it a rest, refocus, and go back once we are calmed down. If that doesn't work for me, I quit for the day~~seriously. I end up crocheting, cutting Accuquilt animals for new quilts, cutting quilt blocks, etc. Just do not sit back at the sewing machine. have found for me 3rd time is NEVER a charm on those days! lol The Aqua is my favorite also~~could never have too much for me! I have been sewing for around 60 yrs (since I was 5) and find this always works for me!

  5. Cute pillow! You've probably answered this question before, but I want to know what do you do to keep you appliqué fabric from fraying?

    1. Thanks! For raw edge applique projects I always use either a Pellon or Steam-a-seam Lite product that you simply iron onto the back of the applique fabric, peal off a backing and then press it again to adhere it to the pillow top, quilt, etc you're embellishing.. I love it!!

  6. From the looks of those great bags, you rallied very well from your bad sewing day!

Your scrap organizing is really motivating me on my own organizing/clean up projects (October is a "no buying" month while I get my mess organized!).

I can't imagine having enough scraps (total) to fill one of those bags let alone needing one for each color!

  7. Yes, bad sewing days are a nuisance, but it's better to just give it a rest for the day. The next day is always better. I like the pillow. I love the pattern combinations. You have a knack for using fabrics that work well together.

    No such thing as aqua-overload!

Sorry about your sewing day yesterday! I had one of those last week. The curtains hanging on my sliding glass door are constant reminders!

  14. I almost completely gave up on sewing one time because I kept having one bad sewing day after another. I was using the seam ripper more than the sewing machine, I cut out a garment a size too small, and well, you get the idea! Hopefully you've had a better day today! xo

  22. We all get those days when we feel that maybe we should have stayed in bed. :D Hopefully tomorrow will be better for you.
I had a bad day with Blogger - it fought me tooth and claw. Kept pausing every few seconds so I couldn't type, gave me headaches trying to down load photos and then balked about putting in my URL links. Finally had to type them in manually (what a chore that was since a URL seems like it goes on forever).

Love the totes they are wonderful and look so well made.

  24. I like aqua too. Can never have too much. Have fun working on your boys room. I made t-shirts for my boys and when leisure suits were in I made those for them. Don't imagine you'll be doing that!! One time when I was grumbling about matching stripes on t-shirts my husband said not to match them and it would look like I bought them!

  25. Maureen dear -walk away from the machine when your day is not going well. Breathe some fresh air - read a pattern book and plan some sewing projects but stay away from the machine because it is not the right day for you! You will find another day will work better as most days do.
Your bags look amazing and you have inspired me because I have scraps in boxes that are hard to sort through. I love your newsletters/blog and as I am fairly new to you, I am really big fan! Thanks for being so human! From a friend in British Columbia.

  28. Ugh, I hate bad sewing days--I always wonder if there's something viral in the air when that happens. Love your bird pillow! Super cute. Here's to mess-free sewing this weekend!

  29. I had one of those days too! I had 2 pairs of little boy's trousers to turn up, it ended up taking me 2 hours rather than the usual 10 minutes. then I tried to make something else, but after unpicking the same topstitching 3 times, I gave up and went and did some handwork instead!

  30. Days when I have to use my seam ripper are a bummer, but my worst sewing day ever was the one where I sewed straight through the nail/finger on my left hand and had the knee jerk reaction to "pull back" instead of calmly lifting the needle. Upside: though it went everywhere else, not a drop of blood got on my project that day! :)

  36. I love the totes, what a great idea. My scraps are all glaring at me from the reusable shopping bag under my sewing table. Maybe they would feel more at home in a scrap tote! And of course the fabric is simply beautiful! Thank you for all the neat and pretty things you do!
