Just a few days after I shared my last fabric stash post I received these adorable new bundles in the mail -- this Reminisce Inspired Pure Element Solids bundle from Stash Fabrics and this super cute & cozy FQ bundle of FanFare flannel by Rae Hoekstra for Cloud9 Fabrics.
Since I love the way these two bundles look together, I decided to begin a new baby quilt-as-you-go with these as my starting point. I've always wanted to incorporate my fox applique pillow design into a quilt somehow and this is the perfect opportunity!
While thinking up additional applique blocks for this quilt, I remembered these elephant applique pillows I made back in 2011, and thought this design might make a cute block to add in, too!
After making my Stitched Typography Quilt and my recent Butterfly Quilt, I'm really excited for this chance to experiment with applique & quilt-as-you-go once again! Here's a little peek at the progress I made last night.
And now I've decided my fox needs a crown!
I'm thinking of adding in an owl applique block, because I love owls, and maybe a tree block or two, as well. What else do you think would be cute? I always love reading your ideas!
♥ Maureen

this is too gorgeous Maureen. I marvel at how you make applique look so amazing :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat about a hedgehog?! They're so cute!
ReplyDeleteI second that. :)
DeletePlease hedgehog! They are awfully cute.
DeleteSew super cute!! I was expecting to read that you were expecting! =D
ReplyDeletea kite, a balloon?
ReplyDeleteThe flag/pennant block and polka dots make me think circus so how about a Big Top Tent or clown?
ReplyDeleteI think a racoon would be oh so cute made by you. This is really adorable.
ReplyDeleteVery cute idea!
Deletei was going to say hedgehog too! and in one of the cross stitch projects i am working on (Woodland Sampler from The Frosted Pumpkins Stitchery) they had a super sweet skunk...not always the expected "cute" woodland creature... :) loving this so far...the colors are great!
ReplyDeleteowls sounds fun! how about a birdie too. They look cute too.
ReplyDeleteLovely bundle and your solids go perfectly with them.
This quilt is going to be so cute. Can't wait to see it! An owl sounds great. I would love to see what you would do with a hedgehog :)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the quilt - very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteRabbit, hen ,goose,bird...Beautiful fabrics and can´t wait to see it.Have a fun week!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! I love how there is a pennant, fox and elephant in the flannel that you have chosen for the quilt. I think a polka dot applique block would be cute as well... but I love the simplicity of picking what is in the flannel and 'highlighting" it with your wonderful applique ....
ReplyDeleteSquirrels are really cute! And I think they fit well with the other animals too!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a great style. Thanks for sharing. You are always an inspiration. By the way, it would be interesting to see just how you 'plan' a quilt. I know you showed a bit in a couple of posts ago, but do you use a sketchbook, all digital, no real planning? What design program do you use? It would be interesting as I am 'planning' a couple of quilts based on some fabric I purchased.
ReplyDeleteas strange as this may sound- i'd add a beach ball- with different colored wedges- like your banners. I, too, am getting a big top, circus feeling. But maybe that wouldnt go so well with trees...
ReplyDeleteSuper cut. Maybe an elephant or fox?
ReplyDeleteThese are just adorable!! I wanna try this out some time. Love these fabrics too!
ReplyDeleteOH! I just thought! Maybe do some A, B, C, blocks using the polka dot fabric on some plain colored squares. I can't wait to see the finished project!!!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I would love to do an ABC Applique quilt with a little creature or cute applique to coordinate with each letter block. It would be a ton of work and HUGE, but is definitely an idea with pursuing one day!! Thanks for sharing!! :)

ReplyDeleteaaaw,, your fox is so cute... !!! *ok, this is out of context but your pink flower is so pretty, may I get close look ? :)
ReplyDeleteCan you email me at maureencracknell@hotmail.com and I will send you a close-up pic. :) I've been wanting to do a "felt flower" tutorial, but you can probably find tutorials for the ones I know how to make all over Pinterest.
Deletefitrids@aol.com :) thank you
DeleteLOVE this fabric and your applique work...how about a Skunk? So misunderstood but so STINKIN' cute! ;)
ReplyDeleteLove them! Your appliques look so perfect. Tutorial? :)
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of a porcupine fan, myself (see? http://kaesey.wordpress.com/2013/06/05/porcupines-and-pickles/) but I think a squirrel would be really cute and go with the fox and an owl! Or maybe a chipmunk?
ReplyDeleteLove the fox, by the way. So cute and yet still....foxy. I think it's the ears. =)
I was agreeing with Kara, Jeanne E., and Lisa Walsh, so I should have said "hedgehog" instead of porcupine! Hedgehogs are cuter, really. =)
DeleteYes, a hedgehog will happen! :)
DeleteBig fan of the elephants. Your talents are amazing, the applique looks great.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I may have to make more elephant applique pillows, too! I had long forgotten about that pillow idea -- that happens often!
DeleteThis is going to be so cute. How about a hen to go with the fox?
ReplyDeleteI like that idea! You're all making it tough to decide!! :)
DeleteA little hen and a turtle. No reason why - I just like them.
ReplyDeletexo jan@sewandsowfarm
Gorgeous colours and cute fox! An owl would be cute too!
ReplyDeleteThis is SO cute - you have such great ideas! I'd also love to know more about your planning process -- what design program do you use? has your planning "style" evolved over time?
ReplyDeleteA mushroom block would be cute in this mix...
ReplyDeleteI would like to see a fox standing, also owl in two stances &elephant in two stances (but not a white elephant...I think them bad luck!)
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for a squirrel.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have the perfect appliques to match the fabrics, this is going to be so cute. I want to do a flannel one for my grandson, so can't wait to see how you do yours.
ReplyDeleteDebbie
This animal applique baby quilt is going to be sew sweet! And soft using flannel. You are sew inspiring!
ReplyDeleteEvery fox needs...............a HOUND to go with it, of course!
ReplyDeleteLike others have said, hedgehog and mushroom, maybe a tree. A bunny would also be cute.
ReplyDeleteHow about a big birthday cake and some party hats like the animals are having a secret birthday party? What you have looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHow about a baby duck and a little bird?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI love hedgehogs (had one many years back) so I would vote for that.
ReplyDeleteI love the soft muted colors! A raccoon or squirrel or just about any baby animal would be cute. This is going to be a sweet quilt!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure whatever you come up with for the blocks will be too cute! Can't wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteWhat about a fish...
ReplyDeleteTurtles and seals and whales and ...........Ok the choice is endless I guess! I love owls too.
ReplyDeleteA little blue bird or a deer :) Super cute woodland creatures would be fab with this fabric selection :)
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are adorable so far! You have the most creative mind,it is so awesome. I love the colors, very soft and nice fall choices. Can't wait to see more. I think a little deer would be cute also.
ReplyDeleteI really like your little fox! He is just so so cute!
ReplyDeleteDolphins are cute but might not go well with the other animals.
ReplyDeleteThat's going to be so cute, and tactile with the flannel :o)
ReplyDeleteI love the cute elephants.
