The Sewcial Bee Sampler Sew-Along: Block 2!

A Dandy in Nightfall & Linen

I hope you enjoyed the first week of the Sewcial Bee Sampler sew-along! Both Sharon and I are blown away by your interest, participation, and mostly by all of the beautiful Patience Corners blocks that have been shared since we released the first pattern last Wednesday! Keep posting to Instagram with #SewcialBeeSampler and feel free to tag @sharonhollanddesigns and myself @maureencracknell when you do so we can both see and easily keep track of all your wonderful bee posts! As a bonus, sharing with the official sew-along hashtag automatically enters you into all our weekly IG giveaway drawings, as long as you have a public account. Our BIG hope was to connect with the quilting community and it has been so much more successful and fun than we ever could have dreamed! My co-host Sharon Holland and I have enjoyed so much using Instagram as a way to admire your blocks and to help you with your SBS sewing if you ever need us! We'll continue to try our best to visit with all who join the sew along!

Ready for block #2--It's a dandy!

Today's free download is for block #2 A Dandy! You're welcome to start the Sewcial Bee Sampler sew-long at any time, and can find all the available patterns in my The Sewcial Bee Sampler Page, so feel free to jump right in! This week we'll be using two patchwork sewing techniques that are simple and well demonstrated both in some extra in step by step images on Sharon's blog today, and of course the information is illustrated and written in the download material!

The Sewcial Bee Sampler Week No. 2: A Dandy

As I shared yesterday, I will be making TWO Sewcial Bee Sampler quilts! One will include prints from all of my Art Gallery Fabrics collections together for a very scrappy look, paired with AGF linen and denim. One will feature AGF's new Boho Fusions collection, including new colors of three of my most popular prints!

For my first A Dandy block I used the Nightfall prints Aura Fletchings Rose, Mothlike Shadows Pure, Lunation Dark, and Luminaries Silver with AGF's Soft Sand Linen!

A Dandy Block Materials

I made just one modification to A Dandy block, including an additional print for my center patch. In the materials list where (5) 3.5" squares are suggested for fabric A, I simply cut four to be my HST units and cut the fifth in a differing print.

For my second A Dandy block I used Boho Fusion prints Acqua Di Rose Boho, Cottagely Posy Boho, and Frida's Dream Boho with my Fleet and Flourish Lace in Bloom Cloud.

Again I included an additional print for my center patch and I really love how this one turned out!

For this second Sampler quilt I've decided to frame each of these block with a variety of AGF denims. Yesterday's block was framed with a Solid Smooth Denim in Infused Hydrangea and this one is framed with a darker, Afternoon Sail denim.

  1. My one tip from making the first block - for those who may be beginners or those of us who are still a bit challenged with the 1/4" seam, I recommend cuttting the outside frame strips a bit larger than listed in the directions so that it is easy to trim to 12 1/2" square if you are a bit off on the piecing.
