A Friendship Diamond Quilt Top : :

In the Light!

So, after much going back and forth I decided to see out my original idea of adding triangles to several of my quilt block corners to create scattered diamonds throughout my NouvElle quilt. First I layered on a few of those cuts to get a good visual and then the good, honest feedback came from my kiddos, who have all taken turns having the flu these past several days! The vote was unanimous, the diamond centers made it that much better, and so closely formed the image I had in mind from the beginning, inspired by the friendship bracelet diamond pattern I attempted to make as a child!

NouvElle with Diamonds!

I really did like it just as it was, without the diamonds, as many of you suggested it should be. But better is always good, and even though I was perfectly fine with not making more work for myself this week with so much going on, I am just too good at that!

A Friendship Diamond Quilt Top!

I'm super happy with how this one turned out and hope you are too! Now to decided on the quilting, hmn? I'm thinking something pretty and feathery or a sweet flower pattern like this oneyes?

    1. The diamonds certainly added a big punch! It would have been pretty, but much more of a subtle and soft design without the diamonds, which would have been great too, just different.

    1. I started working on the pattern for the blocks last week and will need to find time to finish it, but I really, really want to share this one. I wish I had more time! Or better yet, someone who enjoyed all the computer work, since it's not my favorite! :)

  23. Yes, indeed, I agree with the others that the diamonds add a SUPER touch and really change the look of the piece. I like it lots. Excellent work, Maureen, you are so talented and the Eye that you see with during the creative process is strong and true.

  24. Wow! Your quilt top looks amazing!!! The diamonds really do add a nice design element. It would have been beautiful without them and I know it was added work but I think it was worth your efforts. What size did your quilt top turn out to be? Will you quilt this on your home machine?

    1. Thank you! The finished dimensions are 72 x 74, so pretty big, and I could have easily kept going! For this quilt I'm going to have it long arm quilted. Since I don't free motion quilt myself and don't have the time right now to experiment, and because there is so much negative space on such a simple in design, I want to add another layer of interest with the quilting, so I'm sending this off to Melissa, Sew Shabby Quilting, my go-to long arm quilter. :)

  30. I really like your idea of adding the triangles. The quilt looks great!

  31. So how did you add the triangles. Are they pieced...Hard to tell from photos.
I think the triangles helped. I find the blocks of color too large for my taste. Just a personal preference.
