The fact that I have just three weeks to pack up this house sort of hit me like a ton of bricks this week. I really need to get busy, and I'm not sure why I had been in lala-land thinking I had all this time to prepare? It's all still kind of
surreal, I have to tell you. Each day I think
about our house, of course, and even though I believe it is going to definitely happen, I can't help but to feel a little worry about this whole process of buying a house. I decided this morning that I am going to try not to live
in the uncertainty, and try to let myself truly cherish and enjoy every
single minute of this preparation time, and to not be so stress-y about it all. Which I have been, it's true.
I really want to just enjoy it all. Because I am, more than anything, thrilled!
First on my list of things to pack are "the collections" these are the things that my husband knows are here, but when they are all spread out on our dinner table in this fashion, it makes me look a little hoarder-ish?? And, that's not good since my husband is a purger.
So... today I woke up feeling that my much-loved glass, pyrex, pictures, wooden boxes, sea shells, "my stuff," needs to be carefully packed away by me, before it "mysteriously disappears." Anyone want to help?!
p.s...
- I'm planning to leave the dust here. Yikes! You can tell I much prefer sewing over cleaning these days, that's for sure!
- I'm still hoping to get that new tutorial finished to share later today, but it might not be ready.
- Oh, and here's a peek at tomorrow's Fabric Giveaway!

Oh, the packing part is so stinky but think of how much FUN you'll have unpacking it all and finding new homes for them in your new house!!! :)
ReplyDeletePretty, Pretty Things!
ReplyDeleteJust take it one box at a time! I'm sure it is all very overwhelming. Wish I was close enough to help!! =D
ReplyDeleteThe only think I dislike more than packing is unpacking! LOL We've moved way too many times. :) You are going to have so much fun setting up your new house. How exciting!
ReplyDeleteOh that glass! So pretty! Have fun packing :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband would see that stuff as junk too, but it's so purrddy! I say you're on the right track. Good luck Maureen!

Pack quickly before your husband see's all that pretty stuff.
ReplyDeleteThe packing is the worst, and I have a purger over here too. We did get rid of a lot of stuff when we moved, and we actually still need to (we brought a lot of stuff we never use!!) but I was always afraid something would go missing. Just keep at it and don't get overwhelmed. The more you do, the faster it goes. And if worse comes to worse, just start throwing stuff in boxes. Oh, and linens make great packing material, so use those to pad boxes of breakables.
ReplyDeletehow very exciting!!! and stressful, too. Hope you have tons of fun in this transition period and all the packing and unpacking goes well. I'm a purger myself, so my children's "collections" tend to mysteriously disappear while they are at school. ooops!
ReplyDeleteI laughed at your post today. I identify with everything about it -packing up the vintage glass collection for a move, the purger husband, feeling hoarder-ish. Glad you're still finding the time to sew... good luck with the move!
ReplyDeleteMoving is SO exciting and stressful at the same time. One thing at a time, kiddo, and try to enjoy the proocess.
ReplyDeleteThe day will come when you will be all moved in and settled and then you can just relax (what's that?) and enjoy.
My best to you!
Love all of your pretty glass! I also much prefer sewing to cleaning. Actually, I think I prefer mostly anything to cleaning. :) Hope you get a lot accomplished today!
ReplyDeleteUnpacking is more fun but first you must pack. Label the boxes well, you'll be glad of that during unpacking. Here is a link to a glass insulator coat rack that I have on Pinterest. http://pinterest.com/pin/17451517276875401/
ReplyDeleteI'm not trying to distract you from your packing. This is for later.
Moving is stressful, but you will be so happy once you are settled into your own new space.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy it, the Mr. and I bought a house and moved in May. It was the most stressful, horrible, wonderful, thrilling thing I have ever done but I wouldn't give it up for the world. That first night sleeping in a home you own is the best feeling you can ever imagine.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I wish my husband was a purger...of HIS stuff, not mine, lol! Each time we moved, I left the dust until I unpacked and put everything in a new place. Then it looks all new again! Buying a house and moving is stressful, there's no way around it, but it's worth it in the end. XO
ReplyDeleteGood luck packing and moving! Took me two weeks to pack up our three room appartment, culling and all. I'll finally move down to the hubby this Saturday and start unpacking. The excitement, certainly feeling you. :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck! We've moved twice in the last ten years, once trans-atlantic and once around the corner. Both were SOOOOO stressful. It does give you a chance to get rid of some stuff you might not necessarily want/need any more. I am with you on the 'oh my goodness, how did I ever manage to collect this much stuff?' tied with nervous laughter thing, though--I still have nightmares about my husband's facial expressions as I brought everything out of hiding! LOL Best of luck!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! We moved five years ago after living in a house for 10 years. Thankfully I'm the purger and he's the hoarder and I was the packer!
ReplyDeleteJust be sure to pack everything and don't think, "Oh, I'll just put this in the back of the car and run it over." Really, pack like you were moving cross country. If you think you will need storage bins after you move, now is the time to get them. They are great for linens, blankets, etc. And as someone else said, you can't label too much.
ReplyDeleteHa! Yes, I understand. When we thought I would be moving to E's place instead of the other way around, I thought about his potential look of disgust when he saw how much fabric and yarn I actually owned. ;)
ReplyDeleteLuckily, that secret is safe.
Good luck packing your treasures! Lovely, lovely!
It's funny how husbands think all of this stuff is junk, and would happily toss it all. However, we know and love each piece. Where we got it, how much it cost or if a Grandma gave it to us. And to loose any of it would break our heart.
ReplyDeleteHa, ha, yes, get that all packed away safe and sound before anyone notices it! Moving can be painful but I like the way you are focusing on the positives. We are moving home (internationally) and I am trying to do the same. Otherwise I might go crazy! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGrrrr... Packing is so not fun! I even feel stressed packing for a holiday! Unpacking a house though is great fun! That's when I tend to do my purging as I realise some things don't belong in the new space. I love the feeling of renewal! Unpacking from a holiday though is my husbands baby, I usually go and have a nap LOL!
ReplyDeleteI love your glass pieces! It makes me remember I have a lot of nice things stashed in cupboards because we don't have enough display space (but you can't see the dust).
ReplyDeleteMoving is so exciting and stressful. The best part is finding places for your things in your new house. I always hated for anyone to see all my fabric in one place! Once my husband's new boss wanted to show me her fabric and my husband tagged along. He was surprized to find out I wasn't the only one who had fabric stashed in several places!!
ReplyDeleteThe one thing I regret when buying our home is that I was so consumed with worry I missed a truly happy time, don't let the worry cloud your happy time!
ReplyDeleteYikes, good luck!
ReplyDeleteI know I'm late with a reply but I've been away on a 6 day retreat with Gwen Marston and Sue Spargo (and yes, it was really wonderful!)!
ReplyDeleteI've moved more than I care to say and it is so hard, especially when you've got lots of stuff.
Love all your pretty glass things ~
I admire the enthusiasm, Maureen! Packing is ALWAYS so frustrating; and the fact that you embraced good vibes and that you got rid of all the negative thoughts throughout the whole process, I believe, made packing easier for you. Good job! I hope you had a very safe move. =) Ciao!

It is best to start packing as early as two months before the move. That would make the transition much easier, much smoother, and much more organized. Anyway, how did you manage to pack “the collections?” Packing glass and other things that can easily be broken can be challenging. The best thing to do is wrap them with newspapers or bubble wrapper. That would also keep the glassware from getting scratched.
ReplyDeleteWoah, you have lots of glassware there! It's awful to see one of these break, so you must put extra care while covering it. The last time we moved, I was the one who packed all the kitchen utensils and other figurines to make sure that everything was safe and secured. Boy, was that job hard!
