Studio Snapshots : :

Yesterday I didn't find as much sewing room time as I had hoped to after being gone for several days.  Honestly, the only things I kept thinking about really wanting to make back here at home, were more of those wonderful Scrappy Improv Chevron Blocks and more birds!

I did find all of about 45 minutes, with a little helper by my side, to be in my room. I walked in, immediately putting on Pandora, noticing the mess I had left everywhere, sat on the floor with my camera and I started taking photos. Want to see?

It's safe to assume that this is where Lily spent most of the time while we were away. I had left my large order of  AMH's Loulouthi Coreopsis sitting on my sewing desk, waiting there to remind me they needed to become curtains when I got home. I think she's going to be upset with me when I do start sewing with them!

I had left a small pile of Art Gallery Birds to remind me, just in case I were to forget, that I wanted to put a bird on everything last week. This week, I still do!

making plans

I'm excited to add them to these lovely new Robert Kaufman Linens and Timeless Treasures Texture prints from JAQS Studio, in the form of pillows, tea towels, and possible a new bag!

I whipped up this block on a whim a week or so ago, after getting an idea while thinking of this pillow, and I'm still not sure what it should be? Ideas appreciated! I was planning to add it to a back of a bag that I want to make in the very near future, perhaps I should just stick with that?

I snapped a quick photo of my huge stack of Urban Cowgirl that I had won a few weeks back from the Fat Quarter Shop! I still can't believe it and still don't have a plan for them just yet. I think I'll continue to admire them all bundled up so nicely the way Moda always does!

After spending a very special stretch of days with my family, it was extra sweet to finally turn my calendar to April and to find this image. My husband and I will be celebrating our TEN year wedding anniversary later this month, so it felt pretty perfect! Isn't it sweet?

When my 45 minutes of sewing room time was up, I felt as though I had accomplished a lot in a short amount of time, even though I didn't actually have anything to show for it. It was a great reminder of all the things happening and waiting to happen, but mostly that some days the best thing to do is just to sit and notice and just be.

Today, however, I feel like sewing! How about you? Have you made anything new lately? I'd love to see!

  1. Such pretty fabrics! I cleaned up my room - a little! I'm trying to get an Easter dress done....have to take a slight detour to pick up my son at college today, though. I never get as much done as I hope to! I have some lovely Jennifer Paganelli Crazy Love to make a beach blanket - can't wait!

  3. 10 years! So exciting. I'm glad you enjoyed your family time, and I know it must feel wonderful to be back home. I'm sure you'll work yourself into a sewing frenzy today!

I have been splitting my free time between finishing wedding things (including sewing all of those napkins!) and knitting. Fun!

  5. Awww, your cat is SO cute. I really miss our cat! Though I think me crochetin and sewing around her would've excited her a little too much ;-)

  6. Love those linens too, wish I had more, I've just bought the Zakka Style book and am joining in the sew along, but have used a pair of denim jeans instead of buying linen! It was great fun to make, you can see it here: http://mary.emmens.co.uk/2012/04/04/zakka-style-sew-along-zigzag-tote/

  10. Hi Maureen! What a lovely post! You said it so right! Sometimes it's important just to sit there - look around all those fabrics and materials and let the thoughts and plans wander slowly in our minds! Because most of the time we have so many ideas and plans in our minds. Two days ago a thought of a small bag had stucked to my head and all the nigth it bothered me ... yesterday I made it ... a crab with a bag! I love it!
    Happy sewing! Teje

  11. Right now I'm coveting your Urban Cowgirl collection. I had so many ideas for that line I couldn't put one together fast enough before it was mostly gone. Love to see what you make with it. I'm continuing my love affair with Dan Bennett's Cosmos, large, simple quilts in both colorways. The fabric really speaks for itself. Making a market bag for my closest friends 60th birthday. She is going to begin selling her soaps at her local flea market and she needs a proper tote for the occasion. And, working on my first improv block. Mostly ideas, over analyzing as usual.

  12. That was certainly a productive 45 mins! Fancy wanting to make curtains out of the cat's cushions though... ;o)

  13. I haven't had any sewing time but I DID reorganize my space two nights ago. With Eric being gone so much(head track coach this year) I'm looking forward to some serious sewing time for me once the girls go to bed at night:)

  16. I just decided I want to be your kitty so I can just lounge amongst all those beautiful fabbies! I haven't been inspired to make anything lately, but find myself just admiring fabbies.

  17. Lately any extra time I can squeeze out of a day goes to the garden and planning it and making things for it, buying supplies, getting my tools ready. In winter I turn to quilting and sewing but in springtime and summer its all about getting my hands dirty in the garden. Well lately I combined the two in these garden markers, I hang them on the fence behind each row. Today I planted peas and hung the marker here is a blog post about 4 that I have whipped up so far.

  19. That was a fun peek at your sewing room! I especially like the improv block. Sometimes I go in my sewing room intending to do something but end up just looking around and realizing that just being there was what I needed.

  22. Your cat is so sweet and does look like she/he appreciates that stack of fabric! I love your art birds and they will look great against that background fabric. I REALLY fell in love with the Urban Cowgirl fabric and even went on FQ's to get some but they didn't have that nice big stack like you have. T hey only had a few so I'll keep looking. I like the whole spectrum of colors there and just a few of them isn't going to do it for me! LOL! I haven't been sewing because I am trying to get my house ready to sell but I have been crocheting because I don't tend to make a mess with crochet like I do when I sew! LOL! But once I get to my sewing room and clean it up and organize it like your studio then watch out! Meanwhile, I'll just have to keep shopping and buying fabric (on a budget, of course). LOL!

  23. Glad you had a wonderful weekend. It seems lily enjoyed herself while you were away. My cat matsu always finds something to chew/tear up when I leave him alone even for a day. Did you hand cut those beautiful birds, they look so perfect. It's amazing how the fat quarters are a work of art just bundled up as they are. Happy Anniversary, Congrats on your 10th.
