Inspired by one of Meg McElwee's pillows in her book Sew Liberated, I began work on another pillow for my home. It was my first time ever using Steam-A-Seam for an applique project and I have to say --- I am a fan! It was so easy to use and work with. As soon as I finished the pillow I was SO excited and knew I wanted my next project to have fusible webbing involved. Oh, the weird things that make me happy. : )
The embellishments on this pillow were so fun to make --- with all the free-form stitching around each leaf and to fill in the trunk. It felt like I was "scribbling" with my sewing machine and I love the look of it.
I also used a bit of my little folks voile for the backside. Making this just the comfiest little pillow ever and proving to me that it is indeed possible for me to cut into this fabric I love so, so much.
I just wish I would have made two.
Happy weekending and 4th of July everyone!
Lovely pillows
ReplyDeleteIsn't it nice when you use your *special stash* and you love the results ! It is a very * Happy* looking pillow : )
ReplyDeleteLove this pillow the shapes and fabrics are phenomenal.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great pillow. I love the stitching especially. Now I want to make something like that for my house :)
ReplyDeletebeautiful pillows!!
ReplyDeleteSomething about the dobby dot voiles makes me treat them like royalty too. I'd love to have a full stack!
ReplyDeleteI've had my eye on that design from Sew Liberated for awhile. I settled on incorporating into a much-needed shower curtain - my next big project.
Love it! ♥
ReplyDeleteyour pillow is so cute! I haven't used fusible web in so long - I may need to dig it out and try a few things! Have a fantastic holiday weekend! : )
ReplyDeleteThank you all for the comments!
ReplyDeleteRachel - Yes, I have 1/2 yard cuts of each print from the little folks collection and have already started shopping around to replace this little bit of blue dobby dots that I used. :)
I knew I didn't want to make a floor pillow, but loved the design - just not so much of it. A shower curtain would be amazing! I actually have a plain white canvas shower curtain in the closet that this would look perfect on!
Isn't steam a seam wonderful? I love it and I love your pillows!
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love steam a seam? I love your pillows!
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty great, I keep thinking of making an applique, and just can't get beyond the thinking part!-
ReplyDeletelovely to see you work.
That is so fun! How fantastic is that pattern mix!
ReplyDeleteHave a great Holiday weekend!
I love applique! We're just starting to get into it. Your work is very inspiring!
ReplyDeleteWonderful. I can see why it would invoke feelings of joy for you. Thank you for sharing, Katie.
ReplyDeleteFun pillow!! Hope your weekend is filled with love, laughter and fireworks. :D
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog!
ReplyDeleteThe pillow looks really cute.
wishin' that pillow were sitting on my couch!
ReplyDeleteThat pillow is aDORable!!! I wish I had the free-form stitching on my sewing machine, but it doesn't have that capability. Oh, well- one day I'll get one with that function!
ReplyDeleteLove your pillow!! I need to practice more freehand sewing, what a great excuse!
ReplyDeleteThis pillow is gorgeous!
