In the early afternoon yesterday we decided to ignore the cloudy skies and took my finished scrappy hourglass quilt top using Alison's new Field Day collection to our favorite fields nearby for picture taking. Which in the end we all agreed made much more sense for this particular quilt than those beach photos I tried to get. It turned out to be the most perfect lighting for my pictures and was such a fun time for all of us!
We took our time walking along the stream that separates the two fields picking bouquets of wildflowers, turning over rocks, catching crayfish, all while snapping the occasional photo!
The light in this photo is my absolute favorite and really captures both the warmth and brightness of this collection!
My quilt top is made up of sixty-four hourglass blocks. I wanted to be sure that the overall look would be super scrappy, while still keeping symmetry & balance with my placement of a few prints, particularly the lightest & brightest white as well as the deepest purple X & + print!
Deciding on this place for these quilt top pictures truly was the most perfect way to showcase just how beautiful these fabrics are and for me to share all the reasons I love living right here in Pennsylvania!

very pretty! PA is so beautiful in the summer. Your quilt is wonderful as always. I put some beach photos on my blog today- did you go out on the evening of that beautiful sunset? So pretty!
ReplyDeleteVery lovely and colorful. It looks like spring there where you are. Definitely summer here now. I always loved catching crayfish as a child.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are amazing! You have such an incredible eye!
ReplyDeleteYou take beautiful pictures of your quilts! I really enjoyed this post.

These photos are fantastic. They could be out of a magazine. You could create a whole story based off it. I really like the colors of the quilt. :] // itsCarmen.com ☼

ReplyDeleteA true work of art in the midst of God's lovely handiwork.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful quilt. I absolutely love that last photo!
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing to live surrounded by such beauty. I grew up in the Midwest, where everything is pretty flat. Here in the foothills of the Catskill Mtns, I am frequently reminded of how diverse and beautiful our country is. ...I love the simplicity of this quilt and the fabric you chose to do it in!

ReplyDeleteLove the setting for the quilt photos. Just beautiful! Your gathering wildflowers and playing in the creek reminded me of my childhood. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous and you were so right to photograph it there, it's the perfect setting! And ooh, I'd love to have some of that fabric :)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! ♥
ReplyDeleteAwesome pictures, beautiful quilt. Love your style.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought that mid-day on a cloudy day gave the perfect light for pictures.
ReplyDeleteHow is it that EACH quilt you make is my favorite?
simply stunning - now I know why Alison called this collection Field Day - perfect name, perfect quilt and perfect location ! thanks for always sharing your amazing photos :)
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous. Both the quilt and the scenery. I'm going to look for that fabric right now. :-)
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful and the scenery just adds to it.
ReplyDeleteHow blessed to live nearby such lovely scenery. Your quilt is just beautiful
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful, thank you for sharing, Maureen.
ReplyDeletegreat pattern choice for this fabric :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt, lovely fabrics and the perfect pattern. Very nice pictures to show it off. You've done it again, thank you for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThat really, really looks wonderful. I bought a fat quarter bundle of all three colorways with no idea what to do with them. I thought of something like a Swoon or Starburst. But this is simpler and really showcases the fabric nicely. So, two questions:
ReplyDelete1. Have you done a tutorial on your hourglass block technique? Or can you point me to a good one?
2. How are you going to quilt this? Straight lines? Curvy? Fancy? Simple? Do tell!
How big is your hourglass block? I just got Field Day and would love to make this.
ReplyDeleteThanks in advance for the info.
What a beautiful quilt and the photo location is perfect.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great location! Beautiful colors and light. The quilt is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteLove this quilt.....
ReplyDeletewhat an awesome guilt and an awesome photoshoot. can't wait to find a locale for my next quilt.
ReplyDeleteIt is absolutely beautiful where you live! Photos are great, as are your projects. Just startedf "following" you. Keep up the good work.
