I've been talking about making something with a hot air balloon design for months and months now. I had to laugh at all the comments I read last week under my Skull Quilt post, about it looking like a hot air balloon! Especially since I was working on this little wip in between reading them. Hopefully this looks like a hot air balloon house... that is the idea anyways!
With my mind completely consumed with thoughts of our first home, I thought this design was a fun idea! It's going to end up being a new floor pillow cover for the kids. We've been using our Fly A Kite floor pillow so much! So, I think a stack of large pillows will be really nice and cozy for laying around the fireplace this winter.
My husband thought I should have rounded out the bottom corners of the house. Of course, he's right, but has also never sewn curves before, so...
Ever since I made that last Quilted Tote Bag, I wanted to make something for us in a similar color palette.
So, I pulled some of my favorite Pat Bravo fabrics from my stash and got to work.
This is one my new favorite prints! It's Sahara Stars in Blue from the Bazaar Style by Pat. I finally ordered it and think it is so beautiful and dreamy, I love it!!
And, had already ordered a few new Pure Element solids from Moona Fabrics and Art Gallery that were perfect. I am slowly building up my solids stash. Aren't these colors lovely?
Hoping to spend this rainy day making a dent in my stack of wips. Happy sewing!! ♥, Maureen
p.s. I just got word that my sponsor Project Anthologies is having a HUGE ONE DAY SALE! Enter coupon code :: happy40 at checkout and get 40% ALL fabric purchases!!! WOW!

That block is so cute! I love the idea of it as a pillow.
ReplyDeleteI dont see Balloon but its pretty, I love the way you use fabric and you inspire me, Its Hot here in TX, but I still hope to get some sewing done. I am having a Healthy Day..
ReplyDeleteI've heard it's hot in Texas!! So you really don't see it, hmn? The house is supposed to be floating, the stripes are the strings leading to the basket. I may have to start over with this one. :) :)
DeleteI'm daydreaming about that stack of floor pillows by the fireplace. Can I come enjoy your cozy corner with a cup of cocoa? :)
ReplyDeleteHave a good sewing day. I'm putting the 2nd coat of paint on the little ones room. Id rather be covered in fabric scraps than paint but it'll be a good job done.
I had to smile about your husband suggesting rounded corners on the house. :) I think I may need to try you kite floor pillow!
ReplyDeletethat house balloon is so beautiful and i love that fabric too!
ReplyDeleteBe sure and show a picture of the finished product. I can see the house balloon.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! It's the perfect expression of your new-home-daydreaming (which, by the way is so awesome both that you got it, and it looks LOVELY!). I especially like how the print you used for the basket "feels" like wicker
ReplyDeleteAdorable! Its like a different version of the house in 'up' but this one is the balloon!
ReplyDeleteSo fun! I love it :D
ReplyDeleteLove the idea, reminds me of the movie Up. And yes, it did look like a hot air balloon to me!
ReplyDeleteI've been dreaming about doing a hot air balloon block too! I don't have time until December, but I am planning on designing a paper-pieced block with a traditional balloon design. So excited!
ReplyDelete40% off and I am broke.. darn it.. I love their line. I think, its because the sky is on the bottom and the basket is to busy.. Sorry, I love your work, you could call it something else and I would believe ya.. LOl
ReplyDeleteOh, I know it! I'm on a major spending freeze until we are all settled in the new house. Besides, I have enough to move already!
DeleteDon't worry about not seeing the air balloon in this design, Shirley! The kids said it reminded them of the movie UP!, as well as some of the other commenters here. Somethings work and others not so much, but it's always fun to share no matter what!
The basket is a little busy, although I get that it's trying to resemble a weave. I think it looks a little blurry in the first photo, too, so that may be throwing it off?? Am I right?
DeleteYes, it does look a little blurry, but that could just be the print? :)
DeleteBeautiful! What a fun idea for a floor pillow. It reminds me of Up! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is like Up!! Cute idea and thanks for sharing that great sale! =D
ReplyDeleteLOL, have you been watching Up with the kids? ;o)
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun pillow design. I see I'm not the only one who was reminded of the movie UP =D
ReplyDeleteThat is going to make such a special pillow! It will be a wonderful companion to your kite pillow. I see a theme?
ReplyDeleteThis block is so adorable! Will you make it into a pattern????
ReplyDeleteI love it I want to make one!
Thank you so much!! I might, I'm not sure yet? I didn't get to finish it today, I had an unusually "off" sewing day, unfortunately. Hopefully tomorrow or maybe this weekend I will finish it up!!
DeleteThat's a cute idea! Big pillows and quilts around the fire sounds so cozy!
ReplyDeleteSo lovely!
ReplyDeleteHello Maureen!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful blog you have! I've just stumbled upon your blog by googling 'stitch stitching' and I've been reading recent and old blogpost for half an hour now (feel like a creepy stalker now...), looking forward to more in the weekend! I really admire your work (and your family. and your house.)! greetings from far-away Turkey,
Marleen
It's the cutest little hot air balloon house I've ever seen. ;) Sweet, Maureen!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I love that quilted bag in this post! Lovely.
