Is it February yet?

I can't believe how excited my littles are about Valentine's Day this year, with Haila leading the pack! You would think a jolly man, dressed in a red suit was coming with bags full of presents. They are demanding decorations everywhere and daily crafts, which is fine with me, but I was not at all prepared. So,we had to get creative with what we have -- Celery? Yup, it works and was really fun!

veggie stamping

See how when you cut the stalk it looks like a rose. (I happen to know this works with bunches of leafy lettuce, too.) We stamped away and have glittered them -- I'll be sure to share the finished product once we're completely finished and Valentine's Day gets closer.

Making cards

On another note, I finished up a few more felt pillows yesterday and added them to my shop. I think I am just going to make a tea pot one and then this set will feel complete. And, maybe a cupcake, too? In my last post everyone thought that the ice cream cone was a cupcake and I really like that idea. Thanks!

sew sweet pillow set

My yummy cake pillow was also picked up in this sweet treasury, isn't it a cute collection?

Happy February creating! Maureen

you could make the stamp on reg paper. cover front and back with clear packing tape - using an exacto knife cut it out.....you would have a stencil to use over and over.

Seeing this brings back such great memories! My mother taught me how to do this when I was in the 4th grade and wanted to make a very special gift for my teacher. I took flour sacks and hemmed them for dish towels and used fabric paint on the celery to stamp roses on the towels.

I saw Mrs. Swallow almost 20 years after that and she told me that she still had the towels.

Oh, I'm so glad I found your blog! I'm going to be teaching a group of girls a mixed media class, and I think this will be a wonderful project! We won't have access to sewing machines, but if you can think of any other project ideas that would work, please let me know. It will be for 6th to 8th grade girls. Can't wait to make these!! Have a very Merry Christmas!

and if you use a biodegradable dye on your celery - stick the base into a pot of soil after you are done and watch it start to grow shoots again. kids will be amazed they can make prints with it and then eat it in a few weeks time
