It's week NINE and another block release day of the Sewcial Bee Sampler sew-along! Sharon Holland and I are co-hosting this community sew-along now through early August and as usual, I like to begin each Wednesday by reminding folks just learning about the bee that it's never too late to jump in! We still have quite a few new participants joining us each week, the blocks typically take about an hour, so feel free to join us and play catch-up at anytime! I also love to encourage you all to keep posting to Instagram with #SewcialBeeSampler tagging @sharonhollanddesigns and myself @maureencracknell when you post anything SBS so we can both see and easily keep track of all your wonderful bee posts. We'll continue to try our best to visit with all who join the sew along. We're having so much fun!
Today's free download is for block #9: Wedding Ring. I'll be sure to add this new pattern to my Sewcial Bee Sampler Page, so those of you just discovering our bee can find everything you need to begin right in one place! Simply click on the link or the image below for direct access to this week's new SBS pattern!
For this week's Wedding Ring block I'm using my Garden Dreamer Sprinkled Peonies Serene as my main fabric, with two Nightfall prints - Lunation Bright and Illumination Gold. I used the same warm, mustard yellow to color all three of these prints and I'm excited to use them together for the first time!
This week's technique, once again, is the 8-at-a-time HST units method that we've already used. This is my personal favorite method for making HSTs! For those of you in need of a little extra visuals to help you along, you can visit the link to find the generous tutorial Sharon put together. This is the second block in the sampler that doesn't require a framing fabric, so be extra careful to use accurate seams when you sew this one together. I've realized while working on my blocks that I have a tendency to go scant with my seam allowance and often times that results in a larger finished block size. I haven't perfected my consistency just yet, but this sew-along is certainly helping me improve, I can definitely see that!
I'm can't wait to see the Wedding Ring blocks you'll make this week! Be sure to visit Sharon's blog today to see her beautiful versions, and to stop back for details on how to enter this week's Sewcial Bee Giveaway Friday with our wonderful sponsor Aurifil!
Happy SBS sewing! ♡ Maureen
Thank you for the reminder about the framing border pieces - It is a little bit trickier to choose the fabrics so that the outermost piece coordinates with the frames on the other blocks.
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to do more consistent "scant 1/4-inch" seams, too, just to make sure I have adequate trimming leeway. Your block is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI have the opposite issue, I must make my 1/4 inch seam a little generous because my blocks are coming out smaller than they should... I need to work on that exact 1/4 seam. Loving this Sew-Along!
ReplyDeletei need to jump in on this, hopefully this weekend
