Field Day Patchwork : :

Field Day Patchwork

One of my most favorite stops during my quick visit to Spring Quilt Market was the booth of designer Alison Glass. Her use of color and designs are so vibrant and full of energy, I couldn't look without smiling. Bursting with so much creativity and inspiration, it was such a pleasure to have had just that small amount of time to soak it all in!

Field Day is Alison's newest collection, made up of nature inspired prints combined with her signature, lively use of color! Late last night I finally took the time to cut into my fat quarter bundle and immediately became immersed in the colorful world of Field Day. I couldn't pull myself away!

Field Day Quilt Blocks

Filed Day Patchwork

I ended up making fifty-eight hourglass blocks, all squared up and ready to be pieced into a quilt top, using the quick method I often use when making pillows. It was really fun!

The intense rainbow of scrappy patchwork is just what I wanted for these fabrics. I can't wait to see this quilt top finished!

  2. I love it!!! I also like the way you said "Her use of color and designs are so vibrant and full of energy, I couldn't look without smiling. Bursting with so much creativity and inspiration". Sometimes the ONLY reason I buy a piece of fabric is because I smile when I see it!!! Glad to know I am not the only one. Can't wait to see the finished project!!!

  6. It looks so beautiful. I have to admit I was not interested in this line of fabric, but seeing how you have put it together, I can see the beauty in it now. My taste in fabric has changed a lot over the last few months, mostly due to seeing what you have done with fabric. Your creativity is contagious, so thank you for opening up a new creative outlook in me.

  11. Rich deep colors! Your simple design lets the colors sing. By not adding a lot of solids, the richness of the fabric isn't watered down. Love this!

    1. Last night when I began to lay out my hourglass blocks, for a minute I did envision adding in solids, but as it grew I really fell in love the rich saturation of color. I love just the little touches of white in this collection and have placed the blocks that include white in a pattern that really draws me into my pattern. I can't wait to share the finished quilt top, but might have to take it on our trip to the beach this coming week for picture taking!

  12. Could you point me in the direction of your quick method of making pillows or the method you used to complete these blocks? I love the way they look but would also love to see how you do this so fast.
    Thanks

  14. Love, love, love this! This just screams Fall to me! I love fall and all the rich deep colors (and the cool temps). I'm not a summer person so dreaming of those crisp fall days and nights! Thanks for sharing. You have been the most inspirational person I follow. From QAYG, to your herringbone quilts, etc. Thanks for sharing and I'm glad to see you are back to creating. Out of grief sometimes we pull from deep within (because we are so in touch with our feelings) and we do our best work. It's almost like you see things differently and out of that comes a new or renewed creativity. Best wishes to you and your family ;c)
