Yesterday morning, just after I finished up blogging and the day's Esty orders, I grabbed my stack of NouvElle Friendship Diamond Quilt blocks from my wip table and laid them out onto the floor.

Friendship Diamond Quilt beginnings!

Is there another quilter in all of Blogland more in need of a quilt wall than me?!

Before the Storm!

It was getting dark, about to storm, so I snapped a few quick photos, then the phone rang, it was the school nurse telling me that Jacob had come down with the flu. The bad flu. The kind that required me to stay right by his side, watching an American Pickers marathon, interrupted only by trips to the bathroom, popsicles, and little naps. He's still in bed this morning as I write this, I'm hoping after some rest he'll be on the mend today! Having all those little chances to glance into my sewing room, at the floor, to look at this quilt wip ended up being a good thing, as I'm quite liking all the pink happening in the center now!

Loving the pink!

I had originally planned & shared that I would be doing some chopping at this point, adding in diamonds of the NouvElle blues to break up all the pink.

NouvElle Blues

But, now I'm not sure? After sleeping on it, I'm loving the ripple of pinks framed by the watery blues again this morning! Here's another, brighter photo that I recently shared on my Instagram.

Friendship Diamond Quilt beginnings Pat's NouvElle fabrics!

Penny's clearly bored with my indecision!

Penny! What do you think?

    1. I think leaving it as is would also be a great opportunity to do something special with long arm quilting!

    1. Thanks, MJ! I mentioned below that I think it's probably best I make a small sample of my original idea before committed either way. Thanks for chiming in, I appreciate your encouragement!!

    1. Unfortunately he's not! I did start working on the pattern for this since computer work is about all I can image today. Hopefully things start looking up soon. Thanks!

  5. It's perfect!! Why make more work for yourself when you already have a great thing going here. I say just piece those blocks together and call it a finished quilt top!! =D

  6. It's beautiful as is but I think adding the blue fabrics would enhance and compliment the existing pinks and blues that you already have. Good luck with your decision, it will be beautiful which ever you choose :)

    1. That's my exact dilemma, wondering if by adding the blue it will make it that much better, which of course would make it so worth it! I think I will piece together a small sample of what I had in mind before making my final decision, Thanks Traci!

    1. Haha!! Thanks Amy! It's pretty silly I don't have one yet, but I don't even know where I'd put it. I have quite a bit more floor space than I do wall space, so I'm going to have to get creative when the time comes for me to make one!

  8. I LOVE your puppy!!!! Ohhhh, and the quilt is pretty also. Thank you for showing the process. When I first saw this quilt I thought "ohhh that looks difficult." Showing the quilt in progress gives me confidence :) Thanks for sharing !!!!!

  9. I love this pattern and all the pinks, but the blues really make things pop. This will be a gorgeous quilt when finished.

  10. You've probably already contemplated this....but thought I'd mention it just in case: If you have any wall space, you could get the Fons and Porter Design Wall -- I have it in a guest room, hanging on 3M hooks. I can easily take it down when needed. I have loved not having to take everything off the bed every time someone comes to town. As for the quilt, I think whatever you do will be beautiful!

    Are the blocks paper pieced?

    1. Nope, these come together quick! I think paper piecing would take forever, but I never do it, so I don't really know! Ha!

  16. Love this - I love the blue and pinks together. Do you have a specific pattern for this? This isn't the herringbone like you mentioned in an earlier post above? Hope your son feels better soon. And one last thing in response to a post either late yesterday or this morning - I would love to see some gluten free recipes. I've just recently been diagnosed and am struggling. Keep up the great work Maureen - I love following your blog no matter what you put on here.

  26. I don't know if you noticed, but if you flip the pictures, the pinks almost make the shape of a heart. Sometimes I find it hard to decide between different ideas unless I can see both. You should arrange the fabric to get an idea of how the other would work, and compare pictures.

  29. At first I thought this was a log cabin block. I like it very much. Did I miss the winners of the 2 giveaways?
I really do love those pillows you had in the Love Patchwork and quilting mag. Will you be doing more projects for them?

  30. In my opinion, the lighter pinks together tend to fade away. I think mixing in the blue will help everything pop.

  31. Never enough fabric

  32. Love the pinks. I hope you little one is feeling better. A few years ago I found a product called the Vanishing Design Wall www.vanishingdesignwall.com/ I put it above my closet doors in my sewing room. It rolls up like a window shade. I can even roll it up with a quilt top on it. I wish it were just a bit larger but it works work most quilts.

  33. I think of those colors as almost jewel colors - I love them. I have some fat quarters of some purple & green jewel colors, but I haven't dug into them (I've had them since I was a teenager I think)
