Quilt & Giveaway Plans : :

I came down with a hard-hitting flu bug yesterday and it completely squashed all of my sewing plans for last night and for this morning, although I am beginning to feel a little better. There's nothing worse than feeling the satisfaction of being back on track only to be immediately derailed again, boo! But don't worry about me, I'll be back on schedule soon enough and so I thought I'd share my plans for when I am. They involve some pretty quilt finishes and giveaways to get excited about!

First up, my Winter's Garden quilt made using Dear Stella's Mercer collection arrived back from Sew Shabby Quilting this past weekend, with the most beautiful quilted roses!

Another pretty quilt back from Sew shabby Quilting!

I have a solid indigo planned for my binding which is tops on my to-do list. I think the solid should frame this quilt perfectly!

Navy for Binding!

When I finish, photograph, and share my finished quilt I have a gorgeous fat quarter bundle of Mercer waiting to giveaway!

Dear Stella's Mercer for Giveaway!

I've been sharing lots of posts on my Herringbone Dowry, True Colors, & Ribbons Quilt here and on my instagram. This one is also so close to being finished!

In the Sunshine!

For the back and binding I pulled some favorite Anna Maria Horner prints from my stash! All the deep purples and bright aqua blues in her Dowry collection made me reach for more. I can't wait to finish this one too!

For AMH quilt finishing!

For when I do I'll have another amazing giveaway to share for a Design Roll of each Dowry & True Colors collections and the entire Dowry ribbons collection!

For a Dowry + True Colors + Dowry Ribbons Giveaway

Stay tuned...  and stay healthy!    Maureen

  15. Love your pictures...you are such an inspiration to me. I've always thought of myself as traditional but your quilts are making me want to do more modern quilts. I wish I could pick out colors better but the gal at my local fabric store helps alot. I am determined to finish the 6 quilt tops I have made before I start another one. I work part time so only have half days to work on them. I will have 2 full days off this week so will have time to machine quilt some. Yesterday I finished the pillow shams, decorative pillows and pillow cases to match the Irish Chain quilt I made my son and daughter in law for Christmas. They were thrilled. Thank goodness I am getting some projects done.

  63. Oh i hate the flu, got my shot this year, but not before the flu got to me in Sept! At least i don't get the usual Dec/Jan bug anymore. I love the colors in your quilt--the navy with the aqua is awesome!

  66. I love the look of your ribbons quilt and the use of the ribbons. I'd love to try using some of those ribbons in my own quilt, but I'm a little concerned that these ribbons might tend to fray/shred or otherwise breakdown as the quilt is washed and used. I had some ribbons that I bought in Europe. They were so beautiful to start with but they didn't stay looking good as long as the rest of the quilt. How would you recommend washing such a quilt? Thanks, Mona

  72. I am really liking what I can see of your Winter Gardens quilt and the fabrics from Mercer that you used. Can't wait for you to get the binding on and show us the whole quilt. And [gg] have that fat quarter bundle giveaway. It was fun seeing the views of your Ribbon quilt, too, and picking out which strips were lovely ribbons instead of "ordinary" fabric. Good luck with both of these, but please take it easy with that flu bug. It can be some nasty stuff. My doc always says the biggest mistake people make is thinking they are well before they are well. So, please don't exert yourself prematurely. Again, thanks for the peeks.

  83. Hi Maureen! It's been so much fun to follow you on Instagram and here on your blog! I can't wait to see the AMH Herringbone quilt finished! The second I saw the first post on IG I decided that I was going to make one. I'm going on my first quilt retreat this summer and can't wait to make it!! When you post pictures of the finished quilt will you also post some basic instructions/tips on how to incorporate the ribbon into the quilt? Also, how much of each ribon is needed? I'm hoping to start collecting them slowly from here until the retreat. Thanks so much! Such an awesome inspiration! :) Alex (@alexlily11 on IG) a.lily.hite at gmail dot com

  85. I have a question for you! I have a full size vintage voile quilt top that is made of 2 1/2 inch squares. Really old....I'm 61, and my grandmother made it before she passed. It has many colors in it, because it was a true patchwork quilt made from scraps. Trying to decide what would make the best back. I'm going to use white warm and natural batting, and hand quilt it. Should I have a regular cotton for the backing, a white flannel, or something else. Would love to hear what you think! maddmomma8@aol.com
