Oh, Geese : :

When my FQS Blogger's Choice bundle arrived, a collection of twelve hand-selected newly released prints with three solids all in fat quarter cuts, I knew just what I would be making with them! I had designed this Soaring High quilt pattern for Cloud9 Fabrics back in November and enjoyed making these flying geese blocks so much, I've been craving another go at them ever since. Following the same fabric cut measurements listed in my pattern, yesterday morning I began making geese. And, lots of them!

Geese -- on my cutting mat!

Geese -- on the ironing board!

Geese -- scrappy!

Geese -- on the floor!

on my wall

Work in progress! #scrappy #flyinggeese #followthearrow #quilt

I couldn't resist going super scrappy with these colors and prints. As it's all coming together the original arrangement I had in mind is vanishing more and more, but I'm having so much fun improvising as I go!

How about you, have you given flying geese a go? I honestly LOVE making them!

  5. Questions? Do you make your geese the traditional way or the no waste method? Do you use any fancy rulers? I'd like to attempt the flying geese pattern in the love patchwork and quilting mag. Thanks love your colors.

    1. Hi Jennifer! If you use the "make four geese at a time" method, like in my free pattern that I linked to above, they are so fun, easy, and in my case very addicting to make!

      Happy sewing!!

  10. Hey, love your quilt. I'm making flying geese for the first time today. My friend just had a baby boy so got a fq bundle of Michael Millers "out to sea" as she loves the nautical theme...surprisingly easy to make :) .

  11. Never made them. Question, do you have your very own private sewing room or is it spread out?

    1. I have my own sewing room off of the dining room and front entryway. When it gets a little crowded I often take advantage of having the dining room table to use during the day while I'm home alone. :)

  15. Isn't it just fun to go "scrappy" ??? Loving that cabinet holding your fabric stash! And yes; did one table runner full of flying geese. I used Quilt in a Day's ruler and my spinning mat! It was a blessing to use it, so you could just trim the entire block all at once.

    1. Thank you! I haven't tried the ruler myself, but this method for making four geese at a time is so, so quick! I'll have to give the ruler a shot to see what's better sometime. For now I'm enjoying the fun of making these geese, this is just the project I needed to start this week!

    1. Thank you so much! That fabric is from the new Downton Abbey collection, the first one shown here -- http://www.fatquartershop.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=Downton+Abbey+-+7326-E

I'm a huge fan of the show, so when the Fat Quarter Shop asked me to put together a custom bundle choosing fabrics being release this month, I had to add in some of the Downtons!! :)

  18. Love your blocks!! I have been thinking of making some geese with different colors on each side and I know now I totally will :) Funny, that arrow is an exact idea I had, guess I'm getting better at coming up with ideas if you came up with it too lol. Your work is amazing, always!
