I'm thrilled to say that the last of my Birthday Crown orders are all packaged up and ready to be shipped out today!
I had closed my Esty shop a couple of weeks ago, and it might stay that way for the rest of the Summer? I'm going to see how I feel after our family vacation. I don't share these crowns too often, but believe me folks -- there are alot of them being made each day!
Recently I was invited to be a guest on American Patchwork & Quilting Radio with Pat Sloan. I had such a great time chatting with Pat! It's not very often that I get to share my passion for sewing with spoken words, and although I was nervous, it was so exciting for me! Did you happen to listen?
Well, yesterday I received a very sweet email from Pat letting me know that I was included in her Top Ten "can't miss em" interviews. As you can imagine, I was surprised and so appreciative of her kindness, thank you Pat! You can see her top 10 post here on Sew, Mama, Sew! and, have a listen here!
I had mentioned that the photo of Haila running with her new Nordika Zig Zag quilt was one of my very favorites from our photo shoot. As I looked through the comments left under that post I read that it was a favorite of so many of yours, as well. Thanks! I thought I'd share all the ones I took of her running through the grass with her new quilt that day, just for fun! I have to share that one of my very favorite parts of making a quilt is the opportunity for the fun photo shoot that follows. I never saw myself as a skilled photographer before and still don't. But I can tell I'm slowly improving and that there is definitely a passion there!
Okay, now I need some advice! Tomorrow we leave for a 9-10 hr. road trip from Pa to Va and I need to pack some travel projects up today. I bought these four skeins of yarn on my recent trip to Philly, so they'll definitely be coming along.
They're all wound and ready, I just need to decide on what they should become? I was thinking a Summer scarf or cowl, maybe? Something easy and pretty!
I would also love to bring along a needlework project or two in my cute new project bag. Do you have any ideas? Maybe a project you've made, seen, or even pinned recently that you thought would make a great beach/pool side project?! I'm up for anything!!
Thanks in advance for your suggestions! ♥, Maureen

ReplyDeleteSuper cute colors. I really like all of them. But love the rose color one. Can I ask...what brand and color it is? Just learning to knit and would love that color in a cardigan! Have fun at the beach!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. I didn't get to hear it before but I can't wait to go back and listen. And I know what you mean about spoken conversations about quilting, usually we just use our blog voice. Love the yarn and I usually take EPP hexagons with me. That is something I can lay down and then pick back up whenver I have time. Have fun on your trip! jan@sewandsowfarm
ReplyDeleteI just want to say I love those colors of yarn. Right now I'm working making a bedspread using #2 shiny cotton yarn from Puerto Rico for my queen size bed. It's white with a different crochet flower center every 5th block. They are very fine crochet bedspreads.
ReplyDeleteLovely yarn. Whatever you make with it will be beautiful in those colours. My on-the-go needlework project has always been something cross stitched. Since I discovered soluble canvas a few years back I've found it even more adaptable to all sorts of projects and fabrics. At the moment I'm working on decorating some fabric panels that I will eventually incorporate into a children's quilt.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the top 10. I'm going to pop over and listen to the convo. I just adore your cute little project bag, I'm kinda gaga over birds and bags and the two together, well it just doesn't get any better. Did you make it? I have Anela Hooey's book Little Stitches. Not sure if you have it but she has the most adorable little stitch patterns in there. A cute little stitched pillow to go with your daughters new quilt would be special. Have fun whatever you come up with.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being in the top 10. Have a nice relaxing vacation. Are you taking a sketch book with you?
ReplyDeleteI never even thought of that! What a perfect idea!! Thank you! :)
DeleteA summer weight scarf would be lovely with those yarns. I make Christmas ornaments for the grandchildren yearly, so this is the time I would take those projects along (usually felt or cross stitch). Enjoy your vacation!
ReplyDeleteHi Maureen! My favorite take along projects are socks. They're fun to knit and make wonderful Christmas gifts. I also like to make doilies (I know they are a bit old fashioned). I really like the lacy look in my country decor. As far as needlework - I like cross-stitch. They can be great gifts too.
ReplyDeleteI've gotten to the point where I don't like to start new projects like that for travel. Invariably I end up changing my mind (this scarf pattern doesn't look good in this yarn, etc) or I'm missing some tool I needed farther on down in the pattern (cable needle). If you do decide to start a new project, I'd bring patterns for a couple of ideas.
ReplyDeletePat's Top 10 is truly an All-Star cast!! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful vacation.
I am glad that you are receiving several ideas for your trip and hope you enjoy yourself. I follow you on Facebook and am so impressed with your creativity and ideas. I don't knit, but when I saw the photo of the yarn you are taking with you, I thought of my daughter-in-law, who knits lovely pieces for me. She has just opened an Etsy shop, and I thought, "I will share that with Maureen." http://www.etsy.com/shop/ThePurledEwe She has just started, but I am so proud of what she has done with her knitting and now spinning in the last year. Enjoy your vacation, and I look forward to seeing whatever you create as you travel. I know it will be fun. bcbeck@insightbb.com
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the top 10! Having been to the beach recently, you go from the warm (hot) outside into the frigid AC. My vote for the yarn is a scarf/shawl that can cover the shoulders and/or arms indoors! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI like to knit in the car, a scarf would be good because it's not too bulky. When we were on vacation last week, I worked on a baby blanket out of a very light-weight yarn, so it wasn't too hot to work on in the car. I hope you and your family have a great time!
ReplyDeleteI say hexi's to work on paper pieceing them..
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your much deserved vacation! I'm no help on what projects to take because I always pack way too much, lol. I can look at those pics of Haila running with the Zig Zag quilt over and over. Such a fun, fun memory!
ReplyDeleteI think a shawl would be lovely. Maybe one with a ruffle. I also think some type of squares that could be used with fabric to create a quilt. Congratulations! Enjoy your trip!

Have a great vacation in my lovely state! Don't know which beach you are heading to, but if you are at Va. Beach area that is my home. Should you need anything while in the area, just let me know.
ReplyDeleteHi Dianna! You're a no-reply commenter so I hope you see this. Yes, we are first headed to VA Beach for a couple days, where two of my sisters and brother live. Are there any good quilt shops in your area? I've never been to one any of the times we've visited. :)
DeleteYes there are a few, even in Va. Beach! A Different Touch in Chesapeake. Bella Fabrics in Carrollton (close to Smithfield). Nancy's Calico Shop in Newport News. Fabric Hut in Norfolk has all types of fabric. These are a few outside of Va. Beach. Check this link for ones in Va. Beach. https://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF-8&q=quilt+shops+virginia+beach+va&fb=1&gl=us&hq=quilt+shops&hnear=0x89bac1e8fc1527a7:0x4161080a32e0173,Virginia+Beach,+VA&ei=ZVDfUZT4De7RigLIkIEw&ved=0CMcBELYD&iwloc=cids:287836103261900996 Have fun!!!!
DeleteLike Dianna, I'm from VB. If you need some suggestions for quilt shops, I'd be happy to help!
ReplyDeleteLoooooving the colors of that yarn! I personally would make a pair of stripey wrist warmers for fall :)
