Up Next : :

Gosh, I can't even begin to tell you how much your sweet comments and encouragement meant to me yesterday! I wasn't expecting that at. all. Thank you! With all the quilts I hope to make, it just made the most sense to start by sharing where I was and where I am, right now.

And right now, I have these beauties out on my table! It's Carnaby Street, the newest collection by Pat Bravo, along with the Pure Element Solids I pulled from my stash that I hope to add in.

Carnaby Street and Pure Element Solids

Each week, I've been taking the time to begin one new quilt project, which has been working out great for me so far. And this week, I'm ready to dive into these! I still don't have a plan, but with such cheerful and colorful fabrics, it's going to be good!

Oh, Carnaby Street

Aren't they fun?! How about you, is there anything new happening in your sewing room this week?

You can find Carnaby St newly available at  -- The Intrepid Thread, Fat Quarter Shop, Moona Fabrics, Sprightly Fabrics, and Hawthorne Threads!!

  1. I LOVE the colors. They are so HAPPY!
I finished a quilt last week, and told myself I needed to take a little break - focus on the kids (I home school) and getting the house back in order... BUT I have Joel Dewberry's Aviary 2 (purple)calling my name! I just can't stay away, so I think I will get back into that today!

    1. I'm alone all day now, since I don't home school and my children are all school age. But honestly, I still get lots of sewing time in when they are home, it's the most fun I have actually! There is just a better energy when we're all working on something creative together, even when it's our own medium and project.

My sewing room is right off our main living space now, and it's shared as a craft room with the kids, so that makes it so much easier to find the time, too. I hope you're able to get back to it!!

  2. I've got my last 5 quilt tops waiting to be basted and quilted. My set-up isn't the best for quilting, but I can get it done- it's just a pain. Hence, 5 quilt tops finished already this year, and 0 quilts quilted.
I might try to work on them this weekend... but I'll probably get distracted and start something new!

    1. I'm considering doing this quilt as a new QAYG? There are so many fabrics in this collection, I may make a huge quilt and in that case, QAYG would be ideal for me! Are you interested in seeing more quilts, or just other projects using that method. I have a bag I'm working on for Janome right now that is a QAYG. I started it months ago, but will be sharing the how-to on the Janome blog in March or April sometime!

  10. I'm crazy about that teal, gold, black, and white wavy print, and the teal, black, and white mirror dots one. Those are the kind of prints that when I walk into the fabric store that just speak to me.

  11. I can't wait until my move it over with. I want to be able to start a new quilt every week. Well, I might make it every two weeks!

  12. I have a fat quarter bundle of this line as well. I'm thinking of adding a few solids and stretching it into two quilts: Which Way? and a pattern yet to be determined :). Can't wait to see how yours turns out!

  13. Oh they're lovely! I finished a bag, but it wasn't any great accomplishment in my sewing area this week. I would love to be working more on a quilt...soon, I hope. =)

  14. Well I am trying to complete at least one quilt top a month this year. So far I've done 2, so I'm on track....yeah me. I'm working mainly from my stash, so I think the next one I'm going to start is a very simple quilt make from strips sewn and then cut, sort of like a scrappy trip around the world, except I want it to be long diagonal lines. I have seven fabrics from a collection that I've had for about 5 years and so it is time to use them!!!!! Thanks for all your wonderful inspiration, it really does help me to see what others are doing. Even if it is above my skill level, it gives me inspiration!!!!

  16. I am so excited for that line! I did all my daughters wedding flowers in Rock and Romance so I think I will make her and her hubby a quilt with this new line! I can not wait to see what you do with these amazing fabrics. You always amaze!

  17. LOVE your fabric choices. No creative projects this week--spinning my tires in overdrive (tax season + backlog of Etsy orders). Grateful for the job and orders, though.

  19. I've been eyeing those too- my favorite is the small floral with the black background! Can't wait to see what you create Maureen!

  20. I'm seriously jealous of your stash...LOL I'm a huge Pat Bravo fan and nobody carries her lines in my town :(

  21. Wow... These fabrics will get you in the mood for spring long before all that U.P. snow melts and cold winds die down. :) I can't wait to see what you make with them. (A huge quilt, as you mentioned above, would be a nice treat for all of us who enjoy your works of art.)

I have some great fabric (Robert Kauffman's Fusion? I think it's called) earmarked for my twin 4 year old nephews twin size quilts. They will be the first attempt since I made a SUPER simple square block top tied with yarn at the corners. (I won't mention that it didn't age well due to cheap fabric and a serious lack of sewing skills!) I'm going to use a tumbler template and try to do the QAYG method you've given a tutorial on. Thankfully, since they're only 4, they won't care if things end up a little bit wonky! ;)

  23. I've been out of town so I'm just getting caught up. I loved seeing all the quilts together. You are so creative and inspiring! It is so easy in blog land to compare ourselves to others and feel inadequate in what we do. Your style and approach to quilting is what draws me and others to you. Keep it up, Maureen!!
I can't wait to see what you do with all these colors and prints. I know it will be spectacular!

  24. My sweet hubby just ordered me a new sewing machine. I have been working my way through the manual this week. I told him I would like to sew this weekend and he was actually excited about it! I am trying to decide what to start with. Maybe attempting to piece together my first quilt or doing something simple like a stuffed owl. Decisions decisions!

  25. Ohhh, I really like a lot of these fabrics. Can't wait to see what you are going to do with them. I totally loved your post yesterday. It was just very honest which I totally appreciate. My bestie and I just started quilting a little over a year ago and I'm really enjoying it even if I don't have a lot accomplished yet. I've tried my hand at sewing my binding on by hand as well as by machine a few times and I have NOT been happy with the outcome so I think it's back to hand stitching. Maybe I'll come to appreciate that more over time. I'd love to see my QAYG projects. LOVE them!

  26. Love the colours, in fact the real Carnaby Street is a fab riot of colour.

This weekend I unexpectedly get sewing time I should have had as I was meant to be down south with a bunch of friends, but unfortunately our original host won't be able to, and the get together moved another 50 odd miles away (up to about 500 miles!) and the meeting about 2/3 of the way home that I was meant to have for work on Monday/Tuesday, which would have saved me 500 miles each way in 2 days, got moved, so I've had to admit defeat :o( I'm hoping to get started on a quilt I've been excited about the idea of since Christmas though...

    1. Hi Carol! I have to reply here since you are a no reply commenter. :) Well, QAYG is a method of quilting and an acronym for - quilting as you go. I shared a tutorial here : http://maureencracknellhandmade.blogspot.com/2012/10/a-quilt-as-you-go-tutorial.html
This is one of my most favorite ways to quilt, especially for making large quilts! If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at maureencracknell@hotmail.com anytime! :)

  29. Oh, I love Carnaby Street! It's so happy and vibrant and the colours are perfect for spring! At the moment I seem to want to start 20 new projects at once and I've been cutting some fabrics etc., but really haven't made much progress this week, otherwise. However, I think when the "cutting bug" bites, it's good to roll with it, since at other times it can seem like such a bore and then I'll be able to just sew ahead! :-)

  30. A fascinating discussion is worth comment. I do think that you
ought to publish more about this subject, it may not be a
taboo matter but generally people do not discuss such topics.
    To the next! Cheers!!
