An Owl, A Birthday Boy, and Butterflies : :

Today begins the second week of the Owl Doll Parade and Giveaway we are doing in celebration of Earth Day this month. Commenting has been closed for last weeks Owls. So, if you are new here, definitely feel free to still comment (we enjoy reading every one), but we won't be adding any of those to the bowl, just the one's you leave today and everyday you come back to visit for the rest of the month. I was hoping to get some nature shots with this weeks batch, but the weather wasn't very Spring-like this past weekend - so I'll have to see what we can get today.

I added some new details on this one, that you will see more of on a few others this week. Everyone thought it looked a little sad or sleepy, but Jacob and I really like him/her. The kids are always eager to help with choosing the yarns and the fabrics, and so it's only fair that they get to name them. Jacob named this Owl - Owen Owl :
We are celebrating Jacob's 6th birthday this Wednesday --- but these types of events are a week long festival around here. This week, Jacob is King and so we are spending it's days celebrating who he is and enjoying everything that he loves. We spent Saturday at the Strong National Museum of Play, where Jacob proudly wore his birthday crown (idea from The Creative Family).
Our favorite part of the museum is the Butterfly Garden.
In the words of Kaiden, "It's like a dream!"
It truly is : :

Remember --- the Owl Doll Giveaway is going on all month and on the last day of April, a name will be chosen for the winner to receive a custom doll. Just follow and comment - and feel free to come back and comment once a day throughout the month : )

And if you have a second, stop over at
handmade in PA and check out my pillow. It was included in a post about "inspiring stitches" - along with some really beautiful pieces.

Happy Monday everyone!

  5. Happy birthday Jacob! We love going to the butterfly museum here in Houston, though I have to admit, my 4 year old daughter's favorite part of it is seeing the big, red iguana they have in the exhibit.

It's fun to see a little boy owl to go with all of the girls :)

  23. I found The Creative Family to be very inspiring too. In fact, it led us down a path into Waldorf-inspired homeschooling. My littles are 5 and 3. Glad to have connected with another likeminded mama.
