Last night just after 8 pm, once everyone was in bed and in our 'back-to-normal routine,' and I was enjoying my first alone moments of 2013. I began to look back on this blog, through the projects I had finished and shared here throughout 2012 and I was a little shocked, in a good way, at my output. For weeks now, because of the busyness of our move into our first home and all the holiday orders, I have been sort of beating myself up over all the unfinished things -- the qayg quilt top and tote bag I had hoped to finish and share here with tutorials, the Scrappy Chevron pillow I ran out of time to post, the unfinished quilt tops and projects, the lists of things never started. Taking that time to look back at all I HAD finished was so nice and just what I needed to take the time to do for myself!
So, today I've decided to feel good about all the finishes, skip the recap, and jump right into 2013 with something new to share!
Just before Christmas, this quilted pillow set was made for my sister and her husband to give as a gift. I used some of the fat quarters from the Alegria bundle that I stashed from Project Anthologies a few months ago. This collection is SO gorgeous! It's all organic cotton, designed by one of my favorite bloggers Gennine D. Zlatkis for Cloud9 Fabrics. Isn't it lovely?
I added in what little I had left of the brown floral Flea Market Fancy print, with some Art Gallery Pure Elements in a navy to frame the Alegria fabrics, and then lots and lots of quilting stitches!
Gennine's birds are so beautiful!
Today, just after I finally catch-up on my emails and finish this movie with my little girl who is home with a nasty chest cold, I hope to make two more. But if not, that's ok, too!
I'm just really happy to be back here, in my little space today!!
Happy New Year, friends! ♥, Maureen

ReplyDeleteOh this is soooo pretty are you going to post a tutorial? I would love it!
ReplyDeleteI didn't plan on a tutorial, although that's not a bad idea! :) For now, if you need any pointers just email me and maybe I can help you out!
DeleteYour cushions are stunning! I love the fabric. I hope your little one gets better soon. Have a happy, creative and inspirational 2013.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love these! The fabrics, the stitching...wonderful, as always. Thank you for inspiring all of us! Sondra
ReplyDeleteThe pillows are gorgeous Maureen! I hope your sister loved them.
ReplyDeleteToday is my first day with 'alone time' and I was so ready. After getting things done around the house, catching up on emails and blogs, I'll be camping out in my sewing room!
I still have so much catching up to do, too! With my daughter home sick and now I have this nasty cold, I think camping out on the couch sounds perfect for a little while! :)
DeleteYou always make such beautiful things and I always leave your blog feeling inspired to make something pretty! I don't always get something made... but I'm learning that its ok to just be inspired sometimes! I don't need to rush and start a new project every single time, even though I'd like too ;)
ReplyDeleteThat fabric is gorgeous! What a wonderful present, I am sure she will love them!
ReplyDeleteMy sister gave the pillows to her in-laws and they love them, Yay! And, thank you!! :)
DeleteBeautiful pillows! I'm proud of you for being ok with what you got done last year, seeing what got finished rather than what didn't. Happy New Year, Maureen!! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely pillows, I love that fabric. Congratulations Maureen and Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteHi Maureen! They are super beautiful pillows and I'm also fan of Gennine's art and fabrics! I do hope you can take a moment and make pillows just for you! Happy New Year! x Teje
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, if I made anymore pillows for us my husband would seriously commit me! lol Of course, I probably will sooner than later anyways!
DeleteWhen the kids built forts and gather up all the pillows from around the house, it is really something!! :)
Oh my goodness, please don't give another thought to the unfinished things. You inspire me constantly with what you can output, even in the course of a day.
ReplyDeleteNew beginnings...a great way to start a New Year!:)
xo

Lovely cushions, that bird fabric is sweet indeed!

Gorgeous work Maureen! LOVE the pillows! You've inspired me to make some with my stash of Alegria :-)
ReplyDeleteGeninne, Thank you! I am such a fan!! I plan to do a little re-stashing of Alegria. They are so lovely, how could anything made with them not be beautiful!! Looking forward to seeing what you have in store for 2013! Thank you for sharing your amazing gifts with us!!
Deletexx Maureen
So gorgeous.. I just ordered all the fabric so I could make them too!! Lol
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful!! If you need any tips, just let me know! I love when fabrics are so beautiful, you can just do some simple patch-working and quilting, and the end result is still really special. I hope this is just the beginning of Gennine's fabric designing! :)
DeleteI love your pillows, Maureen! I have had the Allegria birds for some time now - I take them out, look at them, feel I'm unworthy to use them properly . . . put them back - but these pillows are gorgeous! What a great way to showcase those birds. Perfect! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful. I'm sure your sister loved them.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning, those colors are so bright, and bold and happy. All the best for 2013, I look forward to your posts, whenever you have the time to write them ;)
ReplyDeleteI should be back to my regular routine of blogging in the morning Mon-Thurs, with my weekend giveaway's beginning on Friday for awhile now! I have lots planned for 2013 -- Thanks Rene!! :)
DeleteBeautiful cushions ~ love the straight line quilting.
ReplyDeleteHope your little feels better soon.
Happy 2013 Maureen ~ may this year hold lots of creativity for you!
Absolutely, it's ok! That Alegria looks so nice with the smidge of Flea Market Fancy! Andthe stitching and more stitching really make them sparkle! You did plenty last year and inspired all of us too. Thanks for neutralizing my own thought about the unfinished list-- it's ok anyway!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Hollis' comment - I get my little Alegria blue birds out - stare at them - get afraid to cut into them and put them back - HOWEVER - these pillow are so gorgeous, I may just get up the nerve to make a set for my daughter - thanks for the inspiration!!
