Today I'm ready to share a little tour of my new space, well our space actually -- we decided to fit as much of the kids craft supplies in here, as well. And, we're all loving that so far! I can't say that it's 'finished', just that it's all unpacked and we're using it!
Come on in!
This room is attached to the dining room, which I LOVE! Having the large table for big projects, craft days, and even just to dream of hosting a "sewing club," is a beautiful thing! I thought I would really want some doors to close it off from the other rooms, but so far I don't and the kids have already decided this is their favorite room in the house. Yes!
Going around the room, I have lots of pieces of furniture! Most of which I stole from other rooms in our last house, with just a few pieces you'll find familiar. It's an eclectic mix of things, that's for sure, which I love! Old furniture just suits us better, it feels more warm and homey to me than anything I could ever buy new. The first piece to my left, and most favorite, is our first, old bedroom dresser -- used now for felt and fabric scrap storage (until I can finish the rest of my color totes). We bought this from a local antique dealer, I love the color and style of it, and am excited I found a reason to use it in here!
On top of the dresser sits my packaging supplies, boxes of floss, and some of the kids craft supplies.
My flower hooks (from here or here) hold all my hoops. And, these wool felt boxes keep my business cards and stickers nicely organized.
Next up is a little desk, the one I made my Innocent Crush/linen desk mat for, that's in major need of knobs!
Then we have my Monster Fabric Shelf -- overflowing with fabric LOVE and handmade goodness!
For the kids, company, afternoon naps for Lily, and a place to put all my pillow makings -- we decided to put our extra sofa in here. In front of that is the kids very used and loved craft/activity table, and a place to hold my cutting mats.
The other side of the room holds a little less -- a shelf for my wips and the kids projects, my sewing table, and one last shelf of fabric and more supplies.
After Martha's suggestion the other day (thank you!), I decided the perfect thing for this empty space would be an inspiration board. It's on my wishlist!!

I'm so excited and so very
grateful to have a permanent room like this! I have MANY more pictures here! Even though there is still so much I want & need to do, it feels really good already. I know that this work & play space of ours IS going to get cluttered
with all the making that's certain to happen, but I'm up for the challenge of making it work.
And now after a very busy long weekend of orders, I do believe it's time for me to get to work in here!! ♥, Maureen
Ohh Wow, so jealous... Looks fantastic.
ReplyDeleteit looks so great Maureen! And thanks for the scoop on the sofa, I might just have to get one for my sewing space (even though I was planning on making a daybed). I can't believe how organized you are already, awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteI think it looks perfect just the way it is! Congrats on your new home and space, you guys deserve it!!
ReplyDeletexLinda
very nice, lots of light, organized and would make me want to sew. Question, what is the acrylic attachment on your sewing machine?
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Hi Patty! You can see the brochure on my machine here -- http://content.janome.com/documents/File/Brochures/TOL%20Brochure%20USA-low-res.pdf
DeleteIt's an extension table that came with my machine, and since I get really sore joints, it really helps with all the sewing I do!
It is looking wonderful!
ReplyDeleteMaureen!!! I LOVE it!! What a treat it was to take a minute out of a busy day to tour your sewing room and your kids' craft room.
ReplyDeletevery pretty room, nice area for you and the children!
ReplyDeleteWonderful space and storage ideas, so you can enjoy your time and the kids can have their own space.

Looks great! I am SO jealous! Wish I had a big room like that to sew in. I wondered about that attachment on the sewing machine as well. Is it just to make more room to put your project? Wondered if they have them for Pfaff machines. I've considered getting one of those thread holders, but thought they might catch dust. What are your thoughts?
ReplyDeleteOh, I love my thread holder! I got mine from Joann's with a coupon and it was maybe $10! I loved having it hanging from my closet in my old sewing room, so I will eventually hang it in here somewhere close to me machine. It looks pretty, too!
DeleteIt's really lovely - I like the idea of having the kids' craft table in there too. When my sewing moved to the garage, I started feeling like a scrooge/recluse. Sometimes the kids will bring little things out and play on the small area rug behind me, but otherwise, I'm alone. Ahh, to have a "space" someday....
ReplyDeletewow! so beautiful and clean :) love it
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful space. You are so talented.
ReplyDeletethis looks GREAT!! so neat. I had the kids crafts in my room too up until maybe 6m ago, my fabrics took over :-) now they have a huge craft table themselves right outside my studio which is the TV/playroom anyways- I do see a near future where I might take over that room too ;)
ReplyDeleteWow, I love it!!
ReplyDeleteOoh, that fabric stash!! Looks beautiful, organized and inspiring for new projects.
ReplyDeleteLove your room, looks like you have lots of room to work with!
ReplyDeletewonderful space you have created! Feels so warm and inviting and comfortable. Thanks for sharing - great start to my day; might see it again in a magazine sometime. Wish I could hire you to organize my room Maureen!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful space with lots of lovely things in there Maureen! Happy Sewing!
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to see your sewing room. It is a happy room and filled with lots of love. It shows that from every corner. Your new house is lovely!
ReplyDeleteGreat room!! So organized! And I love that your kids can be there with you. That is always a plus.
ReplyDeleteI love all the natural daylight and that your kids share the space with you. Looks like a great space to create. I hope it feels perfect for you for a long time- we love seeing all the things you make and being inspired is so important. Can't wait to see your inspiration board ;)
ReplyDeleteOh Maureen, your new sewing room is wonderful ~ I wish I lived closer because I'd love to be in your sewing club! Really great to have a couch too ~ to lounge with your children!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great space. My family is planning to do the same thing with our current living room as well after our additional is done (haha it hasn't even started yet...but soon ;)). Thanks for sharing and hope you have a great holiday season!
ReplyDelete-Q
I just love your room and that you share it with your kiddos, that's so GREAT! I love the window, awesome natural light!! Enjoy and can't wait to see your inspiration board :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jen! It was also the homework table tonight, which was great too! I'm really loving it so far!!
DeleteI love seeing creative sewing spaces. Yours is wonderful! Congratulations on your new home!
ReplyDeleteWonderful room - and I like the family space!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it! what a great idea to set up an area for the kids to be in there with you!
ReplyDeleteOh, it all looks so great! I love your sewing room and I'm sure it is always so clean and organized. (Yeah, just like mine is except right now when there is a path in and a path out. LOL) Your family looks so sweet and everyone looks like they would be great to know. Congratulations and thanks for sharing all your great ideas with your readers.
ReplyDeleteThank you!! What a wonderful comment, you made my night!
DeleteI LOVE your sewing room, but tell Lily she'll have to nap on the floor cuz I'm napping on the sofa, lol! Oh, the happy dreams I'd be having while you were sewing away at your machine (that is if I could drag myself away from looking over your shoulder)! I would love to recline and just gaze at the beautiful fabrics in the cabinet.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
hubbys parents had one of those dressers but sis-in-law got it
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderfully inviting room to create in! I love everything about it. My room is eclectic too and I can't imagine it any other way. I'm jealous of that fabric cabinet!
ReplyDelete$40 -- can you believe it!? SCORE!!! :)

ReplyDeleteOh, I just love your space! And how nice that you can share it with the rest of the family! I've been thinking of you, and I owe you an email!
ReplyDeleteOh gorgeous! All that hard work is good karma...adorable projects are sure to come along in this creative space.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful, inviting space!! Love your windows and all the special little touches --- and being able to SEE my fabrics always inspires me.
ReplyDeleteI agree! Having them all out where I can see them is a wonderful and very inspiring thing!! I wish I could totally dive in, but I have lots and lots of crown orders to stitch up in the days ahead!! :)
DeleteLOVE LOVE LOVE IT! Such a warm, homey, inviting room filled with all that wonderful stuff. I'm like you, old stuff is better. I never buy new furniture, it just doesn't feel like "me". And you have my "dream machine" in there! Sigh. I know you'll have many many happy days in that room!
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly how I feel!! Well, mostly old stuff and new "on sale" stuff sometimes, too! :)
DeleteI'm so excited for you. Such a lovely space.
ReplyDeleteVery nice of you to share your new space! Love it
ReplyDeleteWhat a dream...come true!!!:) Can I be first on that "sewing club" list? :)
ReplyDeleteIf you are willing to make the trip -- definitely!! :)
DeleteYour new sewing room looks so nice. I had to wait until one of my kids moved out so I could turn her bedroom into my sewing room though I do have a twin bed in there for her to sleep on when she visits.
ReplyDeleteOh, such a lovely place to sew.
ReplyDeleteI love it! So cozy and spacious! The "old" furniture is fabulous. Thanks for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteSo nice & neat. Wish mine was this neat. I'm afraid if I clean it up then I won't be able to find anything.
ReplyDeleteSimply beautiful!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could collect some of the old style wooden thread spools and use them for knobs for your desk?
ReplyDeleteThank you for the brilliant suggestion!! I have lots of those already. I'm going to see if I can make them work. Thanks again!
DeleteAw what a lovely space!! Wish mine had so much room and light! You're a lucky lady. Fun that your kids are right there with you too - I think it's cool for them to see you being creative! :)
ReplyDeletelove it! Thank you for sharing - it is always inspiring to see people's creative spaces and look at how we can adapt rooms and furniture we already have to make our crafty lives easier!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!
ReplyDeleteBeauty room, I love it <3
ReplyDeleteHow lovely - so envious :-) Look forward to seeing lots of beautiful posts of beautiful things made from this beautiful room. Massive congratulations.
ReplyDeleteI think you should put on those punk shoes and dance around that beautiful room! Lol
ReplyDeleteTurning green already. Very nice!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, truly awesome stash containment. Jealous of those cabinets. I might not get anything done all day, just stare at fabric!
ReplyDeleteFabric heaven!! Love that monster cupboard full of fabric
ReplyDeleteIt's my favorite, too! It is SO full -- I can't wait to dive in!!
DeleteLovely! You make me want to go down and refold and organize all my fabrics, right now!
ReplyDeleteLooking great so far!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love your craft room! It's so cosy and craft-inspiring!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Tatyana

Maureen, I a so glad I stumbled across your blog, I am searching for cool sewing room chairs and yours is the best I've seen! I love the size, I love, love, love the colour and studs, oh if only! Your fabric stash is something to be proud of, I only wish I found your blog before Xmas, it would have really put me in the Xmas spirit. I love that your photos have a homey feel. Well done, I have an old desk and now I will search Sydney high and low for a similar chair. Thank you and keep on stitching xx
