I had so much fun, working late into the night on my Scraps Quilt. I had shared this photo below on my facebook page last night and got some wonderful positive feedback, which felt so great!! And, I have almost two more blocks finished since these were taken.
This project is just so perfect for me right now, I am really loving it. As someone who admittedly struggles with quilting, I feel like I am finding my quilting niche with this project. And that feels really great!
I've learned, in these last almost two years of sewing, that I am not a pattern follower. I've tried and I just never get it right. I'm that way with sewing, knitting, cooking... It's really best for me to just read the directions and then go for it without following the rules exactly, but to just use them as I guide. Most of the time it works, or it forces me to create my own patterns and projects, which is good. But sometimes it's a little frustrating, too.
There are some patterns that I really, really want to tackle this year -- Anna's 241 Tote pattern, a Swoon Quilt, and lots of Jeni's Lined Drawstring Bags, to name a few. I know I'll get to them eventually!
Today, the scrappy mess and progress continues!
I'm linking up at Freshly Pieced for Wip Wednesday! How about you, what are you up to today?
Happy Wednesday, friends! ♥
Oh! I love it!! That looks so fun!!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great. I am such a fan of scrappy quilts.
ReplyDeleteYes, keep going! It looks great!
ReplyDeleteOh, that looks so nice. I can't get my head around quilting. No idea how it works. So I just admire the work of talented quilters like you.
ReplyDeleteEsther.
That is beautiful! I go back and forth between my own patterns and following others.
ReplyDeleteI love all the colors in your scrap quilt, they go so great! Also, I've made both the 241 Tote and Jeni's drawstring bags (one of each, so far) and the pattern tutorial are both really great and easy to follow! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteWho knew random scraps could look so awesome together!
ReplyDeleteMaureen,
ReplyDeleteThis is insanely gorgeous! You need to be more confident in your work. I don't think you realize how good you are girl!!
xx,
Jenn
Wow, that is a lot of piecing and sewing, but it looks amazing. So bright and cheery. It's nice to have a good involved project going right when you're in the mood for one. I am trying to complete my first self-taught crayon roll today, taken from the directions for a tea wallet and a bunch of online photos. :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing...you have such a great eye for color!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love how wonderfully scrappy this quilt is going to be. It looks fabulous!
ReplyDeletethe colors are so fantastic
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is so richly colored. I love it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful scrappiness! I,too, am not doing so well with patterns and love to just "make" fabric like Victoria from Bumble Beans. I made a 241 Tote - pretty easy, and fun, although I did use my stitch ripper a few times and had to recut some fabric - oops!
ReplyDeleteI love it. So much color. If only I had the patience (and the abundant scraps).
ReplyDeletemakes me realize just how beautiful our scraps are! Also makes me want to try making a scrap quilt....your work is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThat will be such a colorful happy quilt when it's finished! I am only just now learning that I can actually create something without a pattern! I spent years and years working with patterns only, and I'm finally feeling like I can do somehthing on my own if I want to.
ReplyDeleteWow! Your moving quickly on that scrappy quilt! And its GORGEOUS! Great job so far :)
ReplyDeleteIt's fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWow, that quilt is so beautiful. It is a quilt like that that made me want to learn to sew in the first place. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt looks great. I love the mix of fabrics. I really admire your go with your own take/pattern. I'm the opposite - I rely very much on instructions, patterns, recipes - and I'm always in awe of those who will adapt and go for it.
ReplyDeletethis looks so wonderfully amazing! i'm giddy with excitement to see it all come together!
ReplyDeleteand i'm with you on following patterns! i like being more 'free'!
Your scrappy quilt is great. I really like that star in there too. It's so interesting to me how personality traits come out in quilting. I have always been an "in the box" person--I precisely follow directions. I'm working really hard at doing more improv and thinking outside the lines. It's a struggle...

ReplyDeleteHey Maureen,
ReplyDeleteI really like your Quilt, and I love your gorgeous blog.
I'll follow your blog from Germany
I love this Maureen- it's what quilting was originally all about-using up scraps and making do! I love the randomness, and the colours. I am inspired to give on eof these a go. Thanks for posting it.
