I'm so sorry I forgot to tell you a story on sewing, well here is my story about my latest quilt, because of my bad back and latest surgery this quilt is still not finished even after 4 years in the making.
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to hand stitch it all and sew in the bias after. but it is painstakingly long and demands that I stay seated for long periods of time which my back cannot stand. so here is the question.
Will I ever finish it?
Thanks

ReplyDeleteO.K., it took a little thought but here's a sewing story. I have a niece, who as a toddler, was extremely rough on her stuffed animals. Something was always popping a seam and ooozing stuffing. The first few times, her dad made a big thing out of sitting it near the door to go to "Auntie's house" for repairs. She soon got so she would silently simply plop something down next to the door for Dad's next trip. (He's usually here multiple times in a week.) Fourteen years later, she now attaches a note to whatever needs repair (clothing hems, seams, etc.) and still simply drops it by the door. (Funny thing is, I KNOW she can now do these repairs herself but it does keep us in touch!)

ReplyDeleteWhat a great prize. Let's see a sewing story. The Year I met my husband I decided to make a costume to wear to the college Halloween bash. I went to the fabric store picked out a costume pattern and soem gorgeous black material with zodiac, sun and moon designs and went to work. It was my first sewing project in 5 years and it took me all day (and I mean all day, 8AM to 8PM) to finish. I added brass bells and a wand and it's been my costume ever since which is going on 17 years now. Over the years I've added little touches like masks and hair accessories but the base of the costume has remained the same.

ReplyDeleteI wanted to say it is nice of you to have these little giveaways. A fabric story, I just found a crewel embroidered fabric recently that I wanted to make into Elizabethan gown. Though I have been looking for 16th and 17th century historical patterns for some time and came across it at the price I wanted $10 a yard. The impressive part it took 5 years to find the fabric at that price, now I can finally start making the gown. butterfly 164_2002@yahoo.com

ReplyDeleteMy sewing story would have to be the time I was concentrating too hard while using my machine (my grandmother's 1957 Singer). I bent my head closer and closer to get a better view, and was soundly thumped on the forehead by the metal arm on my machine! Oops! :-)
Thanks,
Shannon

I am currently being inspired by http://costumes.narniaweb.com/ --The Wardrobe Door is the best Narnia costume site I've found online --it's been two years in the making, but I'm finally getting around to create Susan Pevensie's "green archery dress" from "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" movie. I've never done a costume "replica" before, so I'm really excited (and nervous). =)
