My Very First Quilt --- Appliqueing and Embroidering : :

This week I began work on my very first quilt. I started creating some applique's with Anna Maria Horner's voile and I'm liking the look of it so far. I sketched out a basic design and have so far stuck closely to that, just with a little more hand stitching then I had planned. This fabric is so beautiful and delicate, which is why I love it so much, but it's buttery soft feel can be a little slippery through my fingers. I feel like I am finally getting used to working with it and I am so excited!

This is the very first step in creating the look I want on the bottom of the quilt,  a row of sweet yo-yo flowers!

I wish you could graze your hand over this picture and feel how soft and lovely this fabric feels with the texture from the yo-yo's!

Lots of hand stitching!

So, this is just a little peek into what I've gotten myself into. Hopefully, I'll be sharing again next Wednesday and each week until my very first quilt is finished! Be sure to let me know what you think, especially if you see this not working for some reason.  : )

Beautiful! I KNOW just how soft and buttery the voile is! I have stashed up big on Little Folks fabric.

Your hand stitching is so perfect and inspirational. Love it, definitely keep going.

Maureen, that is seriously gorgeous! I love the personal touch hand stitching gives a quilt. (and all of your creations, for that matter!)
It's really pretty.

Hello! Saw your posting on this at the forums at Etsy... this is sooo BEAUTIFUL! Love the colors & textures. Jewelry, accessories & knits are my main gig, but I do enjoy quilting. Working on a picnic quilt at the moment--hope to finish before summer's over and use it--LOL! Happy Days :o)

Hi Maureen, I envy you the time you have to create, even though I know it comes at a price. The quilt is amazing. Since you are thinking of boy items, something about the quilt made me think of a baseball diamond with maybe felt appliques that you can move around to play a game of "baseball"? Keep creating, your things are beautiful.

I just popped over from Anna Maria's blog, and I have to tell you ... I am impressed. Making the flowers out of her fabric is brilliant. I like the juxtaposition of the softness of her fabric gathered in the center against the graphic quality of the clear cut outer edge of the circle. The embroidery also is spot on. It is going to be a keeper. Carolina
