Back to School & Sewing : :

♡

Wednesday morning, my children will all be back to school. Though it's bittersweet, certainly there's something both wonderful and refreshing about fresh starts and the beginning of a new school year. As the kids get older, our Summer routine shifts and shapes and changes constantly. I don't think we ever firmly fall into a schedule the way we do during the school year. We take it day by day and embrace the adventure. All that to say, by this time each Summer, we're all pretty ready and excited about the new school year!

I'll be honest with you here, this Summer was challenging for me. As far as creativity goes, my kids naturally gravitate towards making and I'm so grateful to share this with them. Having every available medium for them to mess around with in a casual unstructured way has been a huge benefit. I've come to rely on it for finding my own creative/work time. But in general, I work so much less in the Summer. Which means I always feel behind and often overwhelmed with trying to keep up. I'm really ready for that to end! Still, I know come Wednesday morning when it's quiet and I sit down behind the sewing machine, it will be these last three months, the times I did slow down, the intention to connect, and the value of our Summer adventures that will be on my mind and no doubt will be what inspires my sewing.

New rhythms, more time spent learning, growing, and discovering - all great things!

Ready, steady, GO! ♡ Maureen

  2. Such great words. We just got back on our school schedule last week, and I'm loving the peace that it's brought to our house. Summer is amazing, but I think getting back into our fall groove has made all of us feel happier and more productive.

  4. I am retired now, but can appreciate your post for today. I remember those long summer days and no time for sewing. Your creativity will flow again, as you already know. I enjoy your blog and look forward to it.

  5. Thats all I have been thinking of lately is the rhythm of things. Everything. I feel the same way about school. It is bittersweet. Arguing aside, I really like having them home with me. I am not looking forward to the tight schedule and obligations of the school year. However it is exciting for them to be there learning and growing and for me to be home, working learning and growing as a sewist and quilter. Looking forward to diving into my Craftsy classes and finishing some quilts.

  6. My little boy heads to kindergarten on the 2nd. Bittersweet. And not a guarantee of sewing time as I still have a 5 month old at home. But I'm praying for good naps so I can get back to my WIPs!

  7. It all goes by so fast, enjoy them while they're home. Make as many fun, silly, memories as you can. My daughter just turned 30, and it seemed like yesterday when she went off the kindergarten.

  8. As a faithful follower I'd say you've kept up amazingly well! I don't know how you do it all actually. You should feel proud of yourself. I'm hoping to see a Fall fabric collection from you, too!
