Arizona Love : :

Good morning and happy Monday! Today I thought I'd share a post on my quick Quilt Market trip to Pittsburgh this past Friday, but since I already shared the majority of my photos on my Instagram, along with a very brief summery of how I came to be there, I'm going to jump right into sharing my newest quilt project with some Quilt Market inspiration! Honestly, it all feels like such a dream, getting to meet & hug so many of the people who have been so kind to me these past few years. Who have encouraged me and inspired me in countless ways. It was just SO good, and I'm still without the right words to describe it all!

On Thursday afternoon, just before the kids got home from school, and even though I had NO business beginning yet another quilt project, I cut into the stack of Arizona fabrics that had just arrived from Art Gallery Fabrics and began a new Herringbone QAYG. I could not wait!!

Arizona

As much as I love the other Herringbone QAYG's I've made, these Arizona prints and colors coordinate so perfectly with this scrappy, zigzag pattern! I'm already loving it!!

Arizona Herringbone QAYG

I snapped just a few shots of the Arizona booth at Market. I was hoping to meet April Rhodes, Art Gallery Fabrics Limited Addition designer of this beautiful Arizona collection, but I kept missing her at her booth, which was pretty incredible and so full of amazing clothes, pillows, quilts, bags, etc..

Arizona Inspiration!

Arizona Chair

I definitely left inspired and excited to continue work on my own Arizona quilt project this week! I hope this quilt will be a good example of how creative you can get with my Herringbone QAYG method. I'm adding panels with varying width this time, as well as random panels including just a narrow strip of one print.

Arizona QAYG

I'll be back soon with more to share!!

  7. I just LOVE the new quilt you are working on. I want to sew a quilt that evokes images of American Indians. Like most US citizens, I have a little native blood in me. Can't wait to see more pictures of this one!

  17. I like your new quilt.
Continue to be mystified, though, by the popularity of April Rhodes dress pattern. I find it shapeless and without any style--only redemption is that it is fast to make--but why bother. Any comments on clothes sewing...

  18. I LOVE this fabric line. I really need to get some and totally agree that your herringbone quilt as you go pattern is perfect for this fabric. Your herringbone QAYG pattern is my go to pattern. It's quick and looks amazing no matter what fabric you use. I was thinking of varying the panels so I'm glad you are doing it on this one. I'll be interested to see it. Thanks so much for sharing the tutorial for the herringbone quilt! Oh and btw that chair is AMAZING! I may have to look for a chair to do that to ;c) Glad you got to go to Quilt Market. You belong there and I enjoyed seeing your pictures on IG!

  20. Love the fabrics, will you be posting a QAYG on this? I am currently using a little Janome gem Silver Limited Edition so I'm learning QAYG until I can save up $1,500 for a Janome 6600, so I'm very interested in QAYG, so easy to just work from right to left so no bunching up of the quilt in that little space between the needle & frame of machine.

  22. This quilt is going to be so awesome Maureen! The fabric are perfect! I'm considering making one of these herringbone QAYG quilts, but I have to admit, I'm concerned about the bulk when joining the sections, and the minimal amount of quilting on the back. Doesn't the backing sag? Can you help alleviate my fears? Looking forward to seeing hours finished. These quilts look so good!

  23. One more question- I love this and would love to recreate it!! How much of each fabric would you reccomend?? 1/2 yd be enough?? Depending on size obviously.....

    1. Yes, it's all depends on the size! I'm using a half yard bundle of Arizona and for the solids the amount varies. I have lots of Pure Element in Snow and for the others I'm using any wheres from a fat 8th to a half yard. I may find out that I need more as I create more panels.

  25. Have you destashed all that you plan to for now? I am just seeing your message on FB. If you have amy more scraps or fabrics to destash, I would be interested, especially in monotones, black, white, grays of any shade, lime, pinks and most other colors, LOL. Thanks DeeDee Schroeder
