Quilting As I Go : :

Endless Summer Quilt Top

This weekend I almost finished my newest quilt as you go project, a quilt made using Leah Duncan's gorgeous Meadow collection and lots of Art Gallery Fabrics! I say almost, because even after Instagramming my freshly complete quilt top pic Sunday morning, I counted up just enough cuts to make one more qayg panel. I can't have these pretty strips going into the scrap drawer when they can make this quilt just a little bit bigger!

Endless Summer Fabric Strips

You can read more about how I'm making these stacked strip qayg panels right here!

Late last week the fabrics I requested for my backing and binding arrived from Art Gallery Fabrics, along with a surprise bundle of Pat Bravo's lovely, new collection NouvElle, I'll be sure to share more on those tomorrow! For my binding I chose the beautiful, red-orange Gentle Breeze print, to make all of the tangerine, peach, and salmon colors in my quilt really pop!

bindling fabrics!

For the back I had to go with my stand-out favorite print in the Meadow collection, Summer Grove by Night from the Picnic in the Hills colorway. I LOVE this print! This fresh Kelly green color is my favorite!

Meadow Quilt Backing

I can't wait to finish!!

How about you, what are you working on this week?

  1. Beautiful! Can't wait to see the finished quilt! I stashed a half yard bundle of these when I caught them on a great sale and I just haven't taken the plunge (or found the time) to cut into them yet! Love what you have done with yours! :)

  7. This is such a bright, happy quilt! I love that print you're using for the back.

I'm working on my dyosampler this week and mending. Meant to finish the mending this weekend, but took a much needed nap instead!

  8. This is a happy quilt!! I should make one like this since it looks like no points to match up! I'm working on an applique doll quilt for my granddaughter. It's the first one I've made like this and it's definitely a 'learn as you go' project!

    1. All Art Gallery Pure Element solids, ones I've stashed over the years -- Burnt Orange, Empire Yellow, White Linen, Emerald, Tranquil Waters, Sweet Mint, and Coral Reef for sure. Some of the newer PE's include a Canary yellow and a Mandarin orange that would have been really nice to add in!

  14. I just got done quilting a table runner using the left over pieces from the quilt that I was making using fabrics from Pat Bravo's Line and rather than just throwing out the scraps ,I thought why not try it as see how it looks because I have nothing to loose except my time putting it together and I'm happy that I did because it turned out really nice and something different too.

  16. Maureen, it's so beautiful. So bright and happy, I love the colors so much. I'm working on a zig-zag quilt using Heather Bailey's Lottie Da and True Colors collection. I'm so excited, it's turning out so well.

  17. It's going to be a lovely quilt. I just read over your QAYG tutorial and have a question about stitching in the ditch to "quit" the backing. Since the seams between blocks are pressed open, does stitching in the ditch of this open seam cause a problem or weaken the seams at all?

  18. Nice! I never thought I would like so much orange and green together, but it's so pretty. I love the backing - perfect!

  22. I need to go fabric shopping (I know, I know, poor me - not!) I have a print that I want to make into a baby quilt but I don't have anything that goes with it.

I'm also working on a top (Alabama Chanin style) and knitting some baby bibs.

  23. Maureen,
I love your generosity by sharing with pictures--leaving nothing out. I've a piece of 1 of your fabrics that I found on sale. I'd thought I would have more energy after the holidays but as the oncologist said, "Hey girl, you're not going to have much more energy for a great while 'cause radiation is a tough competitor." Still, I love the feel of your fabric & in fact, have it laying on the table by my chair. It will give my mind a place to rest. Thank you Maureen.

My website discusses a lot of the same subjects as yours and I believe we could greatly benefit from each other. If you might be interested feel free to send me an e-mail. I look forward to hearing from you! Superb blog by the way!
