Just Because : :

Blue-eyed Lily

The morning I took the photos of my newest pillow, the sun was shining bright, so I also took lots of the kiddos, and of Lily. Her pretty blue eyes are amazing! She's definitely comfortable here in our new home, and has become so lazy and rather large in the belly, especially these last few months. She cries as soon as her food dish is empty, and even wakes me up if that happens in the middle of night. It's completely ridiculous and a bit out of control! I'll need to approach this carefully, I don't want to hurt any feelings! So, although this has nothing to do with sewing, if you happen to have any tips on kitty diets, please do share!!

Well, you know you've made a lot of things when you see a glimpse of something on Pinterest and don't realize until several moments later that you're the person who made it? That happened to me yesterday, with this forgotten pillow from May 2011!

For as much as I love making these stitch-y applique pillows, I don't do it very often? I've decided to make some new ones, in new colors, in this same design, just as soon as I can!

This week, I'll mostly be working on and packaging up crown orders. These are a couple of new Garden Princess Crowns. I love seeing these Spring colors!

Garden Crowns

I took some time to update my felt inventory with new color card photos. Making one for all the Wool Blend Felt colors I have available, forty-five colorful shades!

And, one for the dozen of the Neutral color options I have, as well.

Wool Blend Felt Neutrals

I'm hoping these make choosing felt for both crown orders and crafting/sewing projects easy! If your looking for ideas for using felt to incorporate into your own sewing/crafting, I have a Pinterest board "Just For Felt," which includes many of my own felt projects and a growing list of great felt-y inspiration!!

I'll be running a little Etsy Shop sale for 20% off any purchase of felt with coupon code : FELT20OFF beginning now! Last time I ran right out of some colors, so I can't specify how many days I can have the sale. But, if you happen to order and are interested in receiving some fabric scraps, please let me know that "You love scraps!" in the comment section of your order, and I'll be so happy to share!

Happy Sewing!!   Maureen

  4. love love the felt!

but for the kitty diet, we struggled with our kitty for years he went from kitten food to weight maintenance food! he's slimed down now since we started adding wet food in the am. a third of a can and he's allowed to self feed from the dry food anytime. surprisingly the selkf feeding helped him along with the wet food. our vet explained the diet cat foods are high carb. essentually cookies for your cat. he needs meat first. she called it the catkins diet :)

  5. Love the pillow!

As for the kitty diet, the only thing that helps our cat was special food from the vet. Highly caloric, but low in cards. We also tried to play more with him with simple things like a laser point -- we laughed so hard at his reactions. We also hung a play toy on a door that was always. he loved rolling around and jumping up to get that. All these things seemed to work for our cat. Good Luck! She's beautiful, BTW!

  6. never feed your cat wet food or cream only organic dry indoor cat food. Then only fish like sardines from a can or just the juice. - if you would eat it.

    2. I will need to figure out how to make a printable pattern first, so people will have the right flower and leaf shapes. Gosh, I wish I was better at the computer side of all of this!!

  8. I think kitty will be okay. I'd try the vet-recommended food, as two previous people suggested.

I just love your crowns! Those are just too darn cute! I'm still crushing on the raccoon one, though. I need to get that for my youngest...LOL!

I love the applique pillow! A-dorable! You really work magic with felt!!!!!!

  9. Lilly is beautiful! I make my cat food (I have six cats). When I feed them dry or canned they are always hungry. When I feed them my homemade, they get full. http://missyscakesandaprons.blogspot.com/2012/09/homemade-cat-food.html I spoil my kitties and feed them breakfast, lunch and supper.

  10. Our kitty was putting on weight and binging and purging a lot. We got Iam's weight control and gradually changed from the previous food to the Iam's (mixing it together, changing the ratio of each food over a few days). She has lost 2 pounds in about 6 months and doesn't barf much anymore, except when she ate my valentine roses...I'm still a bit angry about that one; destroyed roses AND cat barf. :(

  11. Sweet kitty ~ I'd take her to the vet to find out if anything is wrong and talk about diet with the Doc. My cats eat wet canned food and a premium dry food called Indigo Moon ~ has no wheat or bad stuff in it. I also play with them ~ silly things.
Love the pillow and the way you sewed them on ~ it's really lovely!

  12. You've talked me into it -- I just placed my felt order. It was so tough to narrow down the colors, though. I love them all!

My oldest daughter and I were just enjoying your felt pinterest board. She just adores your crowns like I do!

  13. Thanks Maureen! I got a few large pieces to try out a pillow. I've never used felt for a pillow before but that photo looks like the whole thing wore well...

I recently put my cat on a diet, but really it just meant I was feeding him less. I give him half a cup twice a day, as recommended on my brand of food (natural balance). At first he would let me know when it was empty but eventually he realized I would feed him when I got up and before I went to bed. I think the schedule is pretty important. He's a routine kind of guy. And looking pretty svelte!

  14. Such Pretty eyes :)

Sorry, I do not have much help on feeding Kitty, we were more Rabbit, Guinea Pig pet owners :)

Love the pillow, it is really pretty :)

    Have a lovely day, cheers, T. :)

  15. We got an automatic feeder for our chubby kitty. She's fed 4 times a day automatically and doesn't cry or wake us up anymore. And she has lost weight slowly as we can gradually reduce the amount we put in each feeding. Best purchase we ever made for her.
    Something like this:

  17. Lilly and her blue eyes are gorgeous, but what an incredible photo you took! I don't have a cat so I'm no help with the diet.

  18. Oh your stitchy flower cushion is darling! So funny that you saw it on Pinterest!

  19. What a beautiful cat! I started giving my chubby cat some skim milk. He loves it -- and it seems to have reduced his craving for more cat food and treats. He's slimming down a little.

Such cute crowns! I ordered some felt-- hoping to make some small dolls using a GingerMelon pattern.

  20. What a lovely pillows!

Take your cat to the vet. If she only recently started doing this, maybe something is wrong with her. On the other hand, maybe it was the moving. Our cat has been acting weird since moving.First he was depressed in 3 different forms, he's annoying and wakes me up as well. Not very night, sometimes 2x a night. He's also overweight, but I agree with Pat. Buying the automatic cat feeder (http://www.amazon.com/Petmate-LeBistro-Automatic-Pet-Bleached/dp/B0016BVY2U/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1363148456&sr=1-1&keywords=cat+feeder) was the best thing we've ever done. He needs routine and he whines a lot, but it's not about food anymore :) He's lost almost 2 pounds in 1 year time (I know very slow, but I'm happy with it anyway). I try to play with him more, not necessarily to make him lose weight, but he seems lonely quickly (even though we have another cat and they love eachother). Good luck, but take her to the vet, just to be sure!

  21. I'm not much help with your kitty and I have only worked with felt a couple of times, however your story about pinterest hit close to home. I recently purchased an unfinished crocheted tablecloth from the Goodwill Outlet Store only to have my daughter point out that I had donated that very tablecloth to Goodwill earlier in the year. I am now finishing the talecloth. Your Lily is beautiful.

  22. If it were me, I would probably bring sweet Lily to the vet. As some other commenters mentioned, there could be an underlying health issue, and getting a quick bit of blood work done will make sure everything is a-ok! I think weight gain and over eating can be a sign of diabetes in kitties? I may be wrong. When ours chunked up, we brought her in - turns out she's just our little porker!! Ha! She was a bit stressed by some enviornmental changes as well, and even though she was really ok, she got into a habit of self soothing with food and could never break it.

Yay felt! I may go buy some more now. Speaking of addicts lol

  24. We have a cat that was, at one point, 22 lbs. He was such a tub and the vet was concerned. He is also an outdoor kitty so it wasn't easy to keep him on a diet-since he catches some food too. But we cut his dry food way back (to 1/3 cup per day in the summer, 2/3 in the winter) plus a few treats. One other thing we do is to put his ration in a little glad container and if he acts hungry at night, we give him a few kibbles from the container. So then in the morning, when it's time to feed him, he gets a little less, depending on how much he had the night before. He's still way too fat but probably closer to 16-17 lbs now.

  25. Kitties are alot like people, they will eat when they are bored. I only feed mine with meat as the first ingredient. So many pet stores carry good food now and they eat less when the grains in the food are low. It also helps to have more than one because they chase each other constantly. Getting ready to go buy my felt now!
