Oh how I love Tsuru!! It's the new collection by Rashida Coleman-Hale for Cloud9 Fabrics. When these arrived, I knew they had to become a quilt top asap!
I originally decided to turn my FQ bundle into a quilt full of framed centered and off-centered squares. I was able to get two blocks finished right away after settling on that idea. I was so excited to see it all come together, but ran out of time. It was a few days later before I got back to it, and after taking a second look, I decided to play with some improv.
And, I'm SO glad I did!!
Improv is so much fun for me! Once I started, I just couldn't stop, and ended up staying up half the night until my Tsuru quilt top was completely finished! I've been really inspired by Aztec patterns in prints, home decor, and fashion lately, so that definitely worked it's way into the design of this quilt top!
I used lots of coordinating Art Gallery Fabric Pure Element solids in the quilt, as well. In order from left to right I used -- Snow, Linen White, Mirage Blue, Light Grey, Coral Reef, Nocturnal, Crystal Pink, and Empire Yellow. Goodness, I've already wiped out half of my solids stash this year!
Our white fence and all the snow we had this past weekend made such a pretty backdrop for this quilt top. The colors that make up this collection are just so amazing together!
Of course, I do have my personal favorite photos! This one, the little peek I shared of my Tsuru quilt top on Monday.
That night I brought my quilt along as we went to the park to feed the ducks. I thought I might get some pretty shots, but it was too windy in one direction and so glaringly bright in the other. This photo was such a happy accident, I L♥VE it!
You can find the Art Gallery Fabric Pure Elements available at Hawthorne Threads, Fat Quarter Shop, Moona Fabrics, The Intrepid Thread, Pink Castle Fabrics, Stash Fabrics, and Contemporary Cloth!
And, beautiful Tsuru is scheduled to hit stores this week!! You can find it available in the shop of my sponsors Hawthorne Threads, The Intrepid Thread, Stash Fabrics, Project Anthologies, and Pink Castle Fabrics!
If you're headed to QuiltCon next weekend, Rashida will be there! She was invited by the QuiltCon team to join them as a judge for the quilt competition, is doing a meet & greet Demo for CLoud9, will be presenting her newest collection Koi for the first time! Eek!! And, a Zakka Style book signing! Oh, I wish I were going!
Today, I have an extra FQ bundle of Tsuru to Giveaway to one of you, courtesy of Cloud9 Fabrics!!
To enter, just simply leave a comment here in this post! If you'd like to share a story, pattern, or link to your favorite quilt, that would be wonderful! It could be something you've made, received, or just one you've even seen somewhere? I plan to focus on quilt work this year, so I'm excited to see!! I'll add the winner to the bottom of this post on Monday!
I also want to give a shout-out to Shirley and wish her a very Happy One Year Blog-iversary! She's having a fun Giveaway of her own to celebrate HERE. Congrats Shirley!!
Thank you and have a wonderful Valentine's Day!! ♥, Maureen

Great giveaway. I love the photos on your fence. My sister and I are getting together and sewing the same quilt pattern in different fabrics. We are having so much fun. My younger sister doesn't have a sewing machine so the rules are no one can work on it until we're together. 3bakergirlsgo@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI love making quilts for my family... I haven't posted much about them (not sure why!) but they're my favorite things to make. :) Thanks for the opportunity! :)
ReplyDeletePretty quilt and pretty fabric. Love to see all your pictures. My favorite quilt of the moment is my Swoon quilt, but mostly because it's finally done after one whole year. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI love everything you make and can't believe how fast you are at it! I've just started up quilting and sewing so I've got a long way to go before I can make things as amazing as you! One day I want to make a paper doll quilt for my daughter. This one ( http://beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com/2010/08/big-revealpaper-doll-quilt.html ) seems a bit much but it is super cute!
ReplyDeleteI would love to get my hands on this bundle. Reminds me of my ex-pat stint in Japan - the land of beautiful designs that have inspired RC-H so much. I'm looking forward to using the fabric to make a baby quilt for a friend of mine who lived there too. The perfect merger of the past and future meeting in the present:
ReplyDeletepast - Japan
present - quilt making and friendship
future - baby (Her own little 'bundle' of joy!)
Happy v-day friend! I love love love this quilt, and Tsuru! Can't wait to get my hands on some :) My favorite quilt at the moment is my new + and x, but you probably already knew that!

ReplyDeleteI'd love that bundle! How about my favorite quilt of the moment? My favorite, say, this month? I LOVE this one by Jolene: http://blueelephantstitches.blogspot.com/2013/02/field-of-triangles-3.html. The Center City binding kills me. I love (and hate!) when I see a quilt and think, "I would never -- in a million, trillion years -- have done that, and it is just perfect."
That is a pretty cool quilt. Here is a link to the Tardis quilt I make at my shop. https://www.etsy.com/listing/107598438/tardis-quilt

I'm feeling inspired by this flying geese mini quilt from the purl bee: http://www.purlbee.com/mini-quilt-flying-geese/ - maybe it's the colors they've used, but it is the first time I've wanted to make my own flying geese quilt. Great quilt and great fabrics. I've always been partial to log cabins in all its variations, especially improv!
ReplyDeleteVery colorful! -- thanks for the opportunity to win some!
ReplyDeleteI love feather plumes quilting, soo pretty
ReplyDeletethanks for chance to win
I gave up buying fabric and running apparel for Lent (but I didn't give up entering giveaways!). In theory, it will help me save money towards a nice road bicycle and encourage me to finish more projects than I start. But with a marathon to run next month, I keep seeing the cutest accessories, and I have a baby quilt to finish that still needs the perfect binding.. alas. this is why it's called a sacrifice!
ReplyDeleteThat shadow picture is great! I have some great ideas for projects this year, if I just have the energy to do them. I can come up with ideas faster than I have the time, energy and money to complete them. My health is not what I would like for it to be, which is frustrating. But it doesn't stop me from dreaming!

I would love to make a quilt with that fabric!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the chance to win. You are right-- those fabrics needed to be in a modern sampler. I'd totally do the same thing. I'm kind of on a roll with samplers right now-- I think I've done 2 in the last year (none of which are quilted yet!).
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is lovely and very modern. I think I lean more towards traditional or old fashioned designs. But they seem to have so many more pieces.
ReplyDeleteYour beautiful quilt is so inspiring. I would be thrilled to win this set of gorgeous fat quarters.
ReplyDeleteYour improv quilt just ROCKS! Love your photography skills too. Jane
ReplyDeleteA quilt I'd like to make with some of my scraps is here: http://pinterest.com/pin/184014334744207146/
Took me awhile to find it. I have been piecing 1" scraps together for awhile and plan on hacking them into 1 1/2 strips to insert. Thanks for the chance. Jane
so pretty! I'm not much help to you as I'm very much a novice quilter - I think my favourite quilt of all time is the Bottled Rainbow. My favourite version of that quilt is the one you made!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the prints! They might really make neat ways to jazz up a t-shirt or two :)
ReplyDeleteThose colors are awesome! I would love to use tose colors and make one just like that! Thank you for the giveaways!
ReplyDeletethis weekend i plan to finish up binding on my summer sampler quilt and then get ready to assemble the top of the Kaleidoscope quilt from Don't Call me Betsy's QAL. can't wait to see it all together!

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt top you've made! I love it! I'd love to do a friendship braid or a Sumemr in the Park quilt. (www.missouristarquiltco.com) tutorials. :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to get my hands on tsuru! Thanks for the chance. I want to give a little shout-out to the quilt my six year old son just designed for his stuffed dog. He chose all the fabrics and designed the layout plus he sewed all the inner patchwork squares!

I love pictures of quilts that make them look like stained glass. I will have to take my hubby out one day and make him hold a quilt up to the sun for me. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt. I is so pretty. I love that you took it outside. Awesome.
