    I've recently been going through my own thing, and I've found that creating something all the way through to the finish has really helped me in the confidence/esteem department. It's challenging and rewarding all at once - sewing! Thank you so much for sharing your own struggles, it is always very refreshing to be reminded that each and every one of us has their own battles.

I started watching the OWN channel story about Shania Twain a few months ago and really fell in love with her son "Today is Your Day" and it makes me cry and feel stronger every time I hear it.   8. I find sewing very therapeutic. When my mother was going through chemotherapy, I felt very helpless so being able to make things made me feel productive and useful. Great news is that she has been in remission for almost 10 years now! :)

  10. I try to be grateful for each day--though I am more grateful for the sunny days than the rainy ones. :) But when I do have a bad day, I remind myself that there is a good day out there waiting to happen. I just have to be patient.

When I am feeling down and alone, this verse always comes to my mind and gives me such refreshment because it reminds me of God's perfect sovereignty and that He is always in control and that is love is perfect.   15. Thanks for the giveaway! One prayer I use, especially at times when I feel like I don't know "what" to pray, is to simply repeat over and over, "God, you are here, I here. You are here, I am here." Sounds funny maybe, but it's simple and true I think!

  21. I love that bundle! It sounds a bit crazy dog lady but my American Bulldog Billy helps me get through so much. My family and oldest friends are all thousands of miles away so its comforting to always have unconditional love to come home to. And there's no option of staying in bed and hiding from the world when there's 70lb of dog dancing on your head wanting to go out in the lovely fresh air.
    And if you don't have room for a giant slobbery pooch I also started a "1000 moments" notebook to help me concentrate on and appreciate the little things.

  28. When I get really bummed about all of the negative things in my life, I make a list of the blessings. (Much like the Bing Crosby "Count Your Blessings" song lol) I start with my hubby and kids, end with things as simple as the book I recently bought or the next project I hope to sew. It's a very simple little things, but sometimes I just need a concrete reminder that I shouldn't let myself get overwhelmed by things that I have little or no control over.

  33. I can definitely relate to much of what you are going thru. It takes courage to open up and share all that you have. About a yr ago, I, too was diagnosed w/type 2 diabetes. I was devastated, because I was already dealing w/high blood pressure and RA. As a result of the diabetes, my eyesight has been affected and am in the early stages of cataracts; it has also affected my teeth. I have been learning to eat properly and have lost a total of 35 lbs! The diabetes brought me down but today, I am trying to live a healthier life and w/a lot of promise for my future. I refuse to let any health issues stand in the way of my goals.
    As far as the giveaway, I do love this. I do a lot of crafting and it gives me an outlet to do something for others that I enjoy doing, making home made gifts for family and friends. Keep lifting up your spirits and never let anything nor anyone stand in your way! Wishing you good health, much happiness and much quilting...!

  44. I listen to music. Music always has had away to change my moods.

    Then just to mees with my other half I watch "Snapped or Deadly Women" on TV and he gets real nervous and I get over being mad at him fast.

    The BEST "Mood Fixer" or "Get a Grip to handle the Problem" is a Hug. A hug from mom, kid, other half, friend are the best. Mine is from my MIL and blue haired offspring oohh yeah its blonde this week.

    I'm not into quotes, inspirations etc too much, but I have one that always gets me to "take the leap". It's applicable to anything that needs you to step outside your comfort zone and just go for it. I preset to you - the lovely and inspiring Anais Nin:

  47. I am so sorry about the difficulties (DIFFICULTIES) you are going through and have added you to my prayer list. I like to read Psalm 91 and have found that it helps me "settle down" when I am feeling anxious.

Knit, crochet, paint,sew, make jewelery from beads, draw, dance, sing, volunteer, learn...Whatever you like but don´t let yourself get bored. That´s what helps me. And colors, tea, chocolate and whipped cream...And my earings-collection. And my chihuahua dogie:-)

  52. My favorite prayer that has always helped is the Serenity Prayer. "Lord give me the strength to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference". When dealing with medical issues for either myself or my daughter this prayer reminds me that it isn't always within my hands to change things, but I do have the strength to deal with them. I hope this helps bring you peace in times of stress :)

David was a man after God's own heart yet he faced many trials and tribulations and when I am troubled or scared the Lord always brings to mind Psalm 27:5...For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.

  58. I have an author who I enjoy very much that always seems to help me put things into perspective. Richard Paul Evans. His books are definitely a no-fail when it comes to helping me get through my struggles, and help me to remember that there is always someone out there that is worse off than me.

    Also, this is rather odd (I suppose), but I truly love the Titianic Soundtrack. The music is so powerful for me.

  59. I love that scripture Melissa! I try to hum a tune that reminds me that I can be comforted no matter how I'm feeling. Mad, happy, sad, etc. It goes like this: "oh how praying rests the weary! Prayer, will change the night to day. So when life gets dark and dreary, don't forget to pray." just the chorus of course but it helps.

  60. Dear Maureen, you are so kind! Thank you for sharing those beautiful fabrics! For me the most helpful hobby is sewing and especially patchworks. I used to knit all the time but then I don't have to concentrate so much. So sewing and also painting is really good because I am thinking only my work and I enjoy it very much! I love to read, too, but because I can't find here books with my own language I don't read so much anymore. I get some Finnish books and I read also in English and in Greek but it's more enjoyable with our mother-language!

I think it helps to talk about it...I am going through something of my own right now...not sure what it is yet. Doctors keep telling me it is nothing; just age and thinning of the skin...but boy; I don't know...anyway; nothing compared to you....so I will cheer up here and move on.     I love to sing, especially 80s songs.
    Cooking a nice meal all from scratch. Especially if I can sing along to the radio.
    Creating something beautiful for somebody else and seeing the joy in their eyes when they unwrap the parcel.
    Pictures of kittens make my heart melt. I discovered I'm allergic a few years ago so stick to the pictures now but they still make me happy.
    Sometimes watching a sad movie or reading a sad book and letting out all your pent-up emotion and tears can be really catarthic.
    A girl's night out with my sister involving as much stupid chatter as desired, a few drinks and lots and lots of dancing.
    British comedies, especially the slightly dark, slightly twisted ones; Blackadder, Black Books, Monty Python...
    Cuddling up to my beloved and looking into his eyes always does the trick. And the things he does. And the things he says.
    Having someone to listen who not only waits for you to talk but sometimes prods you to do so, who keeps you from keeping it all to yourself.

  66. There's a sentence from the Silver Chair (Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis) that I cling to when my days are dark, when I am afraid, or when I need some perspective: "...Aslan will be our good lord, whether he means us to live or die." That sentence gives me hope in times of need and I cling to it because I know that no matter what, Jesus will always be my good lord.

  81. My mantra is anything but profound. When my illness saps me of the energy to delve into my sewing room projects, I do what I can while repeating to myself, "Something is better than nothing." Rather than feeling immobilized by the pain and fatigue, it's better to sew one seam and enjoy the feeling of the fabric in my hands, the colors and design that I am creating.

    To help me in times of stress if find knitting to be a great activity. As I work I can think, think, think, but the stresses that would ordinarily just wind me up in knots seem to get dissipated as energy going into my fingers manipulating the needles and the fibers... Some people find that the repetitive nature of knitting drives them nuts. I find that it soothes.

Well at the moment it is my dog that gets me through, she is 18 years and 9 months old, nearly blind and very deaf, but boy is she a stubborn so and so, which is one of the reasons I think she is still here!! There are several things that make me happy and keep me going when I'm feeling less engaged in my life: good music, playing with my daughter, sewing or finding another creative outlet (lately it's been all quilting all the time, though), and working out. Any of those things can reinspire me when I'm feeling down or upset about the difficulties in life.

    I will say the people around me inspire me. I have a friend in Denmark who's a year younger than me, we grew up together, she had a baby this summer- after multiple times of trying to get pregnant and ending badly etc. she finally went full term, ended up having a c section, that TORE ouch! then a month later got diagnosed with breast cancer! and she's in good spirits, even while going thru all this! We pray for her and her family, makes me really appreciate what I have. A great husband, two great and healthy kids, a nice house, I'm able to stay at home.... it made me think, of how easily I got pregnant with both of my kids and I had great pregnancies ( not so much the deliveries, one C section and one VBAC but sunny side up) it made me/ us think why we don't have more kids!?? we have the means to do it and well...... to be continued :-) wink wink

    I have MS, so what keeps me calm is knitting..lace knitting, specifically. I'm a math-educated person so figuring the numbers, etc. is fun for me (cuz of course, I'm also always changing the pattern). BUT when I want to get geeked up, I like to watch female-inspired films..like "Working Girl"..my NY hometown and all the quelling of the typical female stereotype.

  176. I am lucky enough to have a wonderful husband who supports me a lot so the best way for me to calm down and get better is to snuggle in his arms and listen to his words. Another thing that helps me a lot is my faith. When it's getting very nasty I turn to God and just tell him that I have an absolute confidence in his will. If this is something I have to go through I accept it and know he prepared something better for me a little later.

But sometimes when my two little girls are driving me up the wall, as 3 and 4 yr olds do lol, I do look to my mum and think about how lucky I am to still have my children after watching her lose my brother when he was ten months old and really unwell for those months and how she handled herself through it all. I am so greatfull to have my healthy and happy munchkins!! It's me that needs to stop being negitive!

  190. The closest I have to a quote or saying that helps me through things is that God will never give you more than you can handle. Years ago I really did not believe this but as time has gone by and I have been near the breaking point many times I have learned that it really is true, this saying has gotten me through more heartbreak and pain than I care to think about. Also no matter how bad you think something that has happened to you is there is always someone who is in worse shape than you are. When my so was killed at age 13 I thought that there could be nothing worse, a few weeks latter I was with a friend who recieved a call that one of her identical twin sons had been killed, to me that showed that there was worse. I was having a horrible time but could not imagine looking at the identical child every day know that one of my sons was dead. God bless you all

  192. I have a go-to movie that makes me stay positive:
    Armageddon with Bruce Willis. I know, that's just really strange!! I like doing things for others when it's least expected and find that surprising others really makes my outlook positive. Last time this happened was when I helped pay for a funeral for on of my patients who passed away. He lived with dignity and I wanted to make sure he was also remembered by the same dignity so I helped out the family...
